Service dog donation at Camp Pendleton
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – The daughter of a retired Marine will receive a specially-trained service dog in a ceremony at the base Commissary at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 23.
Savannah Salazar, who has been diagnosed with epilepsy, will receive the dog from Canine Assistants, thanks to a donation from the Milk-Bone brand.
Canine Assistants is a non-profit organization that provides service dogs to people with various disabilities, at no cost to the recipient. The dog will be able to open doors, turn on lights, retrieve dropped objects and obtain help in case of an oncoming seizure or other emergency.
The media and public are invited to attend the event, meet Savannah and her family, and learn more about service dogs and how they enhance the quality of life of those they serve.
