
Sergeant Major Darrell Stillings

Sergeant Major Darrell L. Stillings was born in Waynesboro, Mississippi, in 1966. After graduating from King High School in Tampa, Florida, he joined the Marine Corps on 12 June 1984. He attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. After graduation in September 1984, he attended the Warehouse Basic Course at Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia, and received orders to 2nd Supply Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He served with the Special Training Allowance Pool as a warehouseman from January 1985 until January 1987. He then transferred to 3rd Supply Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Marine Corps Base Okinawa, Japan where he served at the Training Allowance Pool until January 1988.
In February 1988, he reported to Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina where he served as Assistant Warehouse Chief. After a successful tour of duty with the air wing, he transferred to Drill Instructor School, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation in September 1990, he was assigned to Company “A,” 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.
Upon completion of Drill Instructor Duty, he returned to Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant and Billeting NCO with Headquarters & Service Battalion, 3rd Service Support Group from September 1992 until September 1993. Returning to the United States in September 1993, he reported to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Logistic Bases, Albany, Georgia, and served as a Supply Chief and Logistic Chief until May 1997. He then attended Career Planner School at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, and served as a Career Planner from May 1997 until September 1997.
Transferring to Okinawa, he was assigned to 3rd Marine Division, G-1, and served as the Division Career Planner, until he was reassigned to Combat Assault Battalion, where he served as the Battalion Career Planner and Unit Transition Counselor. Upon completion of his overseas tour he returned to Marine Corps Logistics Bases, Albany, GA. He served as the Base Career Planner, the Career Planner for Blount Island Command and Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Benning. He also served as the Base Property Operation Chief before being reassigned as the Material Command Career Retention Specialist.
In July 2002, he was transferred to Company “B,” 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraq Freedom. Upon returning to Camp Lejeune, he was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company until transferring in July 2005.
In August 2005, he joined Company “B,” First Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, where he served as the Company 1st Sergeant until February 2006. He was promoted to Sergeant Major on 10 February 2006 and served as the Sergeant Major of 2nd Recruit Training Battalion and Support Battalion until transferring.
In June 2008, he was transferred to Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 224, Marine Aircraft Group 31, Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina where he deployed twice on UDP to the Far East as the Squadron Sergeant Major. In March 2011 he reported to Chemical Biological Incident Response Force, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Naval Support Facility Indian Head, Maryland, where he is currently assigned as the Command Sergeant Major.
Formal Courses attended: Enlisted Warehousing Intermediate Course, Enlisted Supply Course, Drill Instructor Course, Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course, Command Career Course, and the Advanced Course. He received an Associate of Arts degree from Hinds Community College.
Personal decorations include: the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars and Combat “V”, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars, Combat Action Ribbon. He also received the Fiscal 2000 Career Planner of the Year award for the Marine Corps.
