Mr. Albert A. Washington is the Director, Administration and Resource Management Division, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, DC. In his position he is responsible for planning, directing, managing, and supervising widely diversified local, regional, and worldwide programs in support of Headquarters Marine Corps. He also serves as the HQMC Equal Employment Opportunity Officer, HQMC Security Manager, and Accountable Officer for HQMC owned plant and minor property.
Mr. Washington was commissioned a Second Lieutenant after graduating from Florida State University and Officer Candidate School in 1972. In 1973, he was assigned to the Third Marine Division where he served in supply and logistics officer billets with the 3d Service Battalion. From 1974 through 1979, he served in several supply and maintenance billets at Marine Corps Base, Quantico and Marine Aircraft Group-32 in Beaufort, South Carolina.
In 1979-80, Mr. Washington attended the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School. Following a tour in Okinawa with the First Marine Aircraft Wing in 1981, he attended the U.S. Army Contracting and Acquisition School in Fort Lee, Virginia and subsequently served as the Regional Contracting Officer, Camp Pendleton, California.
In 1984-85, Mr. Washington attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College and was assigned to the 2d Force Service Support Group at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. From 1985-88, he coordinated and planned Maritime Prepositioning Ship (MPS) operations and exercises as the Operations Officer (S-3) with Brigade Service Support Group 6.
In 1988, he assumed the position of Head, Maritime and Geographic Prepositioning Section within the Installations and Logistics Department, Headquarters, Marine Corps. He served in that capacity until early 1991, when he deployed as the Commanding Officer, MEU Service Support Group 26 (MSSG-26), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (SOC). During his tenure as Commanding Officer, MSSG-26 was deployed for a total of 15 months and participated in Operations Provide Comfort (1991) and Provide Promise (1992).
In 1994, Mr. Washington graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University and was subsequently assigned to the Office of the Secretary of Defense. At OSD he served as the Persian Gulf Director in International Security Affairs and later as the Director, Counterdrugs Plans and Support, Special Operations-Low Intensity Conflict Branch.
In 1997-99, Mr. Washington served as the Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools (MCCSSS) at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where his leadership experience was enriched through acquaintance with several of the original Montford Point Marines.
Upon completion of his command tour in 1999, Mr. Washington reported for duty with the Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA) Department, Headquarters Marine Corps and served with some of the greatest Americans on the face of the earth as Head of Enlisted Assignments (MMEA) and later as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commandant, M&RA.
In January 2002, he became the Director, Administration and Resource Management Division, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps.
His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2d Award) and the Navy Achievement Medal.
