The Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment (WWR) hosted the second meeting of its newly-formed Employment Advisory Board in Quantico, Virginia on April 30, 2010. The WWR Employment Toolbox, which is currently under construction, was the focus of the board’s agenda.
The Board provided a forum for participants, consisting of WWR staff, private industry, and government, to discuss the employment tools and authoritative websites utilized in the toolbox and how those tools will ultimately assist wounded, ill and injured (WII) Marines and their families as they endeavor to find fulfilling careers after military service. “The tools on the toolbox will ultimately cut down the transitioning timeline for wounded warriors and allow the transition process to be straightforward and successful,” said Bill Offutt, a Board participant and Managing Director of Hire Vets First Initiative/U.S. Department of Labor.
The WWR plans to continue its work with the public and private sector to improve the hiring process for wounded warriors. “There are a lot of people out there who are willing to help the cause and the board is an effective venue for pulling valid resources together.” said the WWR Executive Officer Col. Jay Krail. “It allows for an open discussion for organizations to introduce successfully utilized resources,” Krail continued.
“This Board brings together a lot of people with different backgrounds, approaches and resources,” said Ronald Drach board member and Director of Government and Legislative Affairs/U.S. Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Service. “Not one size fits all. The great thing about this board is an idea that I have may not work for one Marine but perhaps it might work for another,” continued Drach.
