Fallen Marine to be honored in dedication ceremony

The Baltimore Military Entrance Processing Station located on Fort Meade, Md., will be rededicating their swearing-in room to Cpl. Jennifer Parcell June 6 at 10:00 a.m.

Parcell was a 2004 graduate of Fallston High School out of Bel Air, Md. In that same year, she joined the Marine Corps. After completing all of her Marine Corps training she was assigned 3rd Marine Logistics Group out of Okinawa, Japan. While stationed there she was sent to Pakistan to assist in earthquake relief operations and in August of 2006 was deployed to Iraq.

While she was in Iraq, Parcell worked in the Lioness program. This was the program in which female Marines were assigned the task to search female Iraqis. On February 7, 2007, Parcell was killed by a female suicide bomber whom she was attempting to search.

The Baltimore MEPS has enlistment responsibility for 23 counties in Maryland, two counties in Delaware, 10 counties in Virginia, three counties in West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Of the thousands of people from all the different services that have enlisted out of this location, Parcell was the one chosen to have the room named after.

For more information on this event, please contact Staff Sgt. Jimmy Bention at (410) 379-5709. On day of ceremony POC will be Sgt. Cotton at 910-581-5941.
