
SERGEANT MAJOR GARY W. WEISER
Sergeant Major Weiser entered the Marine Corps on 5 January 1983 and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego, CA, graduating as a Private First Class.
He reported to the Infantry Training School, Camp Pendleton, CA in March 1983. Upon graduation, he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal on 2 May 1983 and sent to his first duty station at Camp LeJeune, NC. His first assignment was with AT TOW Company, 2nd Tank Battalion, where he served as a Tow Gunner and Squad Leader and was meritoriously promoted to Corporal on 2 March 1984. During June 1984 he deployed with 1st Battalion 8th Marines as a Squad Leader and was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant on 2 November 1984.
In December 1985, Sergeant Weiser was transferred to Headquarters Company, 4th Marine Regiment at Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan where he served as Platoon Commander and Platoon Sergeant.
During December 1986 he reported to Drill Instructor School, MCRD San Diego, CA and was subsequently assigned to Company B, 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor and was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant on 2 January 1989.
In April 1989, Staff Sergeant Weiser reported to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines at Camp Pendleton, CA and was assigned to Echo Company where he served as Weapons Platoon Commander, and Rifle Platoon Sergeant. During August 1990 he deployed to the Persian Gulf and participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm with Task Force Grizzly.
Upon returning from the Persian Gulf, in March 1991 Staff Sergeant Weiser was assigned to the NCO Basic Course at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), 29 Palms, CA as a Squad Advisor and Instructor until May 1992 when he reported back to MCRD, San Diego and was assigned as the NCOIC of the Water Survival Branch until October 1994.
His next assignment was with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines were he served as the Scout Sniper Platoon Sergeant and Combined Anti Armor Platoon Sergeant in Weapons Company and on 1 August 1995 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. During October 1995 he was reassigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant of Suicide Charley and served in that billet until May 1999 when he was promoted to First Sergeant and executed orders to Marine Barracks, Washington DC.
In June 2002 First Sergeant Weiser was reassigned to Combat Service Support Group-1 at MCAGCC, 29 Palms, CA. In February 2003 he deployed to Kuwait/Iraq with Combat Service Support Battalion-10 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. During October 2003 he was promoted to his current rank and assumed duty as the Battalion Sergeant Major of 1st Battalion, 7th Marines and deployed back to Iraq from August 2004 through March 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II-II.
During January 2006 SgtMaj Weiser was assigned to 3D Assault Amphibian Battalion. On 9 February 2007, SgtMaj Weiser assumed the duties as Sergeant Major, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division. During May 2007 SgtMaj Weiser was reassigned and reported Headquarters Marine Corps as the Sergeant Major for Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments. In August 2010, SgtMaj Weiser was reassigned to his current billet as the Sergeant Major for the Inspector General of the Marine Corps.
Sergeant Major Weiser is an Honor Graduate of Infantry Training School, Drill Instructor School, the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy Career Course, the Infantry Platoon Sergeant Course, The Marine Combat Instructor Water Survival Course, and the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy Advanced Course. His personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star.
