II Marine Expeditionary Force

Mission Statement

When directed, II MEF deploys and is employed as a Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) in support of Combatant Commander (CCDR) requirements for contingency response or Major Theater War; with appropriate augmentation, serves as the core element of a Joint Task Force (JTF); prepares and deploys combat ready MAGTF to support CCDR presence and crisis response; and supports service and CCDR initiatives as required.

2nd Intel Battalion supports Border Patrol in South

FORT BLISS, Texas - Marines from Ground Sensor Platoon (GSP), 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, completed a training mission last month that is credited with making a significant contribution to the U.S. Border Patrol's efforts to detect, deter, and defeat transnational criminal organizations’ attempts to conduct drug and alien smuggling activities on the U.S. – Mexico border.

The 2nd Intel Bn. volunteered to perform the Military Support to Civilian Law Enforcement Agencies mission coordinated by Joint Task Force North, the U.S. Northern Command unit tasked to provide military support to the nation’s federal law enforcement agencies.  The Camp Lejeune, N.C., based intelligence unit, which has performed similar JTF North support operations at locations throughout the U.S. Northern Command area of responsibility, executed this mission in support of the U.S. Border Patrol, Rio Grande Valley Sector. MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C.  - It is glorified in film and photography, praised with emotionally charged words in literature and poetry and exalted during news reels. However, no format ever does justice to that three letter word – war, or its six letter counterpart – combat.
 
This inability to explain the experiences of battle serve as a tribute to those who have gone through it. It is paramount that an effort be made to wrap our minds around the ferocity of that singular event – combat – so we can better appreciate what service-men and women go through.
