OCIO Roles & Responsibilities
Per direction of MCO 5400.52 the CIO has the following roles and responsibilities:
- Serve as principal advisor to the commander for issues regarding Information Technology (IT) and alignment of IT investments to business priorities and assigned missions.
- Oversee the effective use of information resources across organizations to successfully meet the goals and objectives required for delivery of required capabilities.
- Support the alignment of business processes through implementation of a segmented architecture and IT planning procedures.
- Work in collaboration with G6 for the protection of mission critical and mission essential systems through strengthened cyber security management, and technical controls.
- Team with command competency leaders to ensure core IT/Information Assurance (IA) workforce training, certification, education, and management requirements are identified, supported, and consistent with DON direction.
- Ensure compliance with DON and Marine Corps IM/IT directives, guidance, statutes, regulations, and policy.
- Provide technical support for the commands Information Management (IM) and knowledge Management (KM) efforts, and promote effective and efficient design and operation of command level Information Resources Management processes.
