______________________________________________________________________________________________  Sergeant Major Scott R. Helms enlisted in 1985 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California., July 1986.
After completing M60A1 Tank School at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, Lance Corporal Helms was assigned to Marine Security Forces, Cuba.
In 1987, Corporal Helms was transferred to Company A, 3rd Tank Battalion, 29 Palms, California. he was a Tank Commander during Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM.
In 1992, Sergeant Helms returned and served as instructor at Basic Armor School, Ft. Knox. In 1995, he transferred to Parris Island, South Carolina to serve as a Drill Instructor for 3rd Recruit Training Battalion and upon completion, in 1997 Staff Sergeant Helms was assigned to Company A, 1st Tank Battalion, California, as Platoon Sergeant and Company Master Gunner.
In 2000, Gunnery Sergeant Helms reported to Company A, 4th Tank Battalion to serve as an Instructor/Instructor.
First Sergeant Helms reported to Company A, 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, BLT 1/6, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in 2003 and deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. 1/6 deployed again to Fallujah, Iraq, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
Sergeant Major Helms assumed the post of Battalion Sergeant Major for 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion in November 2006, and remained until transferring to 4th Light Armor Reconnaissance Battalion in May 2009.
Sergeant Major Helms personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with four subsequent award and combat "V", Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one subsequent award and Combat Action Ribbon with two subsequent awards. |
