Mission
Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, as the U.S. Marine Corps Service Component Commander for the Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, commands all U.S. Marine Corps forces assigned to the U.S. Pacific Command, accomplishes assigned operational missions, advises the Pacific Command commander on the proper employment, capabilities and support of U.S. Marine Corps forces and provides combat ready forces to other commands, as required. The MARFORPAC Commander also serves as Commanding General, Fleet Marine Forces, Pacific and Commander for U.S. Marine Corps Bases, Pacific.

Structure
MARFORPAC is the largest field command in the U.S. Marine Corps. Forward deployed forces both ashore and afloat, and forces stationed in the United States are led by the Force Commander. His peacetime combat forces and supporting installation Marines and Sailors total approximately 74,000.

Marine Air Ground Task Forces
Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) - or MEF, is our largest and most capable force. It can conduct both forcible entry operations and sustained operations ashore. Normally a MEF is composed of about 50,000 personnel. However, I MEF grew to more than 90,000 during the Gulf War.
Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) - Employed when a full-strength MEF is not required. A MEB would normally consist of approximately 14,500 Marines and Sailors, and would be stood up as contingencies require.
Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) - Special Operations Capable and is our most frequently deployed MAGTF. It is sea-based and forward deployed aboard amphibious vessels. A MEU-SOC is the focal point of Marine crisis response because of its specialized training regimen and the fact that it’s frequently the first sustainable force on the scene.
Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force (SPMAGTF) - possesses all the elements of a MAGTF and is functionally tailored for a specific mission. Some of those might be fire fighting, evacuation operations, riot control, peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance or disaster relief.
