Colonel John R. Hahn

Second Lieutenant Hahn received his commission in December 1984 after graduating from Officer Candidate School. Following completion of The Basic School and the Basic Logistics Officers Course, 2ndLt Hahn reported for duty with 3rd Battalion, 12th Marines as the S-4A. In November 1987, 1stLt Hahn transferred to 1st Force Service Support Group G-4 as the Group Maintenance Management Officer and Officer in Charge of the Supply and Maintenance Assistance Team. He was later transferred to Brigade Service Support Group – 7 as the S-3 Assistant Operations.

Captain Hahn was then transferred to 3rd Force Service Support Group in January 1990, serving as the Assistant Officer in Charge of the III Marine Expeditionary Force Liaison Element in Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines. During this time, he was assigned to Contingency Marine Air Ground Task Force 4-90 for earthquake relief. During June 1991, Captain Hahn assumed duties as the 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines S-4 Officer where he planned and executed numerous counter-narcotics missions and deployed in support of Operation RESTORE HOPE in Somalia. He later attended the resident Amphibious Warfare School. In June 1994 he was transferred back to 1st Marine Division and served as the Headquarters Battalion S-4 Officer and later assumed the duties as the 1st Marine Division G-4 Logistics Operations Officer in June 1995.

Major Hahn was then transferred to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in May 1997 where he served as the Assistant Officer in Charge, Technical Assistance Fielding Team and Security Assistance Advisor to the Deputy Commandant, Saudi Marine Corps until June 1998. He was then transferred to Darwin, Australia as the J45 Logistics Plans Officer for the Commander, Northern Command, Australian Defense Force. During this period, he participated in U.S. International Force East Timor and United Nations Transition Assistance East Timor operations. Major Hahn was then transferred to Camp H.M. Smith, HI for duty as the Marine Forces Pacific G-4 Logistics Operations Officer and the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff G-4.

Lieutenant Colonel Hahn was then transferred to 2nd Force Service Support Group in November 2001 where he first commanded Combat Service Support Group - 26 and later assumed command of Marine Expeditionary Unit Service Support Group – 26 in June 2002. His unit was deployed from March 2003 to October 2003 with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) to the Mediterranean Sea and Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, the Arabian Sea in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, and Liberia for Operation JOINT TASK FORCE LIBERIA.

Upon return, Lieutenant Colonel Hahn attended the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. where he received a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies and graduated with distinction. During June 2005 he was assigned as the U.S. Pacific Command J512 Japan Country Director until assuming the duties as Deputy Commander/Chief of Staff, Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command in June 2006.

Col Hahn was then transferred to the 2d Marine Logistics Group as the Assistant Chief of Staff G3 (Operations) during July 2008 where he deployed to Iraq as the AC/S G-3, 2d MLG (Forward), Multi-National Forces-West in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 09 from January to December 2009. Upon his return, he resumed his duties as the G-3, 2d MLG until he assumed command of Marine Wing Support Group, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing on 10 July 2010.

Col Hahn's personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with two gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with gold star), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with gold star), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
