Cpl Williams IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Cpl Williams is recognized for his participation in the Patriot Cup Golf Tournament in Oklahoma, which benefited the Folds of Honor Foundation.
This organization provides post-secondary scholarships to the spouses and dependents of soldiers killed or disabled in combat. He was one of 44 military personnel and one of six active duty service members who were invited to participate. Although he did not win, it was his first tournament, and Cpl Williams displayed exceptional character, representing himself and the Marine Corps honorably. In addition, he participated in the Detroit Area Marines Golf Tournament, a fundraiser which assisted Marines with their Marine Corps Birthday Ball tickets.
On November 27, 2007, Cpl Williams, a hometown resident of Paintsville, KY, successfully completed boot camp at MCRD Parris Island. Prior to attending his MOS school at Camp Johnson as an Embark Specialist, Cpl Williams attended Marine Combat Training (MCT), where he received a Meritorious Mast.
While volunteering as a recruiter's assistant, he earned a Navy Unit Commendation for his efforts in contributing to the success of the unit's mission.
In 2008, Cpl Williams held the billet of embark clerk with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing in Cherry Point, NC. During this time, while his unit was forward, Cpl Williams filled the position of a SNCO and received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his hard work and dedication.
In 2009, he deployed to Afghanistan with the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade. In August 2010, Cpl Williams reported to MWSG-47 and currently holds the facilities, ammunition, TOT/TOP, and billeting NCOIC billets. MSgt Gillingham IN THE SPOTLIGHT
MSgt Gillingham is in the spotlight this month for his hard work and dedication. Specifically, his coordination, planning, and passion that made the air show and golf outing possible.
Due to his outstanding fundraising efforts, the Marines of the unit will enjoy a low cost Marine Corps Birthday Ball.
MSgt Gillingham is a native of Meadville, PA. He joined the Marine Corps 11 February 1986 and subsequently successfully completed boot camp at Parris Island, SC in September of 1986. MSgt Gillingham was further assigned the 3500 series MILITARY Occupational Specialty where he spent the next 10 years as a Motor Transport Marine. In 1997, MSgt Gillingham laterally transferred into 06 occupational field where he served as a communications Marine and is currently serving as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Engineer Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron 471.
MSgt Gillingham's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 3 stars. MSgt Gillingham has one daughter, Mackenzie.
