Headquarters Marine Wing Support Group 47 provides command and control, administrative and fiscal support, and operational oversight of three reserve Marine Wing Support Squadrons. Those squadrons are further divided into nine aviation ground support detachments spread across six states.
Approximately 2000 Marines and Sailors assigned to these nine detachments are responsible for providing thirteen functions of aviation ground support to the Marine Corps' Aviation Combat Element and are in direct support of the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing.
Marine Wing Support Squadron 471 Detachment B is co-located aboard Selfridge Air National Guard Base. As one of the nine subordinate detachments assigned to MWSG-47, this company-sized detachment is responsible for providing general engineering support to 4th Marine Air Wing.
This engineering support consists of expeditionary utilities support, construction support, and heavy equipment support for materials handling and earth moving.
