IDIVIDUAL TRAINING COURSE (ITC)
The Individual Training Course is a physically and mentally challenging course designed to provide Assessed and Selected Marines with a basic foundation of essential special operations skills. Our approach is to develop capable CSO’s by a process of instruction, practice and evaluation and then continuing to require learned skills to be applied under increasingly adverse conditions.
Phase 1- Coursework includes Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE), Tactical Combat Casualty Care and extensive communications training.
During phase 1, students will begin a rigorous Physical Training program designed around endurance, functional fitness, amphibious training and combatives. This physical training program will continue throughout the course and has been designed to prepare the student for the unique demands of special operations.
Phase 2 - The second phase builds upon the foundation of Phase 1 incorporating Mission Planning, Fire Support, crew-served weapons and tactics and amphibious operations training which culminate in the nine day exercise, “Raider Spirit”, designed to reinforce all of the skills learned to date in a simulated high-stress combat environment. Following this exercise students receive instruction on Special Reconnaissance (SR) skill sets and finish the phase with exercise, “Stingray Fury”, which focuses on the students ability to conduct SR missions in a challenging full mission profile environment.
Phase 3 – Close Quarters Battle (CQB) is the focus of Phase 3. Students receive intensive instruction in Combat Marksmanship, CQB Tactics, Techniques and Procedures, demolitions and urban combat skill sets. In exercise “Guile Strike”, students will operate as an assault force tasked with conducting precision raids on rural and urban objectives.
Phase 4 – In the final phase, students will receive instruction associated with Irregular Warfare operations and will culminate the course with the three-week mission, “Derna Bridge”. Derna Bridge will force the student to use all of the skills mastered throughout the course while training, advising and operating with a Partner Nation / Irregular force.
Language Training
All MARSOC Marines are required to undergo continual language training. However, based on ability, certain Marines will be selected for follow-on language training at an Advanced Linguistics Course.
Follow-On Training
Training and educating MARSOC CSOs does not end with ITC. Marines will continue training at the battalion. In addition, the MSOS offers advanced-level courses in a number of subject areas: Special Reconnaissance, Close Quarters Battle, Sniper, Breaching, and Weapons Employment.
