MCAS Sergeant Major Donald C. Miller 

Sergeant Major Miller was born February 8, 1963 in Fountain Hill, PA.  He grew up in Lawrenceville, NJ and graduated High School in June of 1981.  In June of 1983, he entered the delayed enlistment program, and reported to MCRD Parris Island, SC in March of 1984.

After completing recruit training, Sergeant Major Miller reported for school at NAS Millington, TN for basic aviation hydraulic systems and corrosion control school.  In September of 1984, Sergeant Major Miller reported to Camp Pendleton, CA for AH-1 (Cobra) and UH-1 (Huey) hydraulic systems school.

In Novemeber 1984, Sergeant Major Miller reported to MCAS New River in Jacksonville, NC.  There he served with Marine Light Attack Squadron 269, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 263, and also Headquarters Maintenance Squadron-29. In Novemeber 1985, Sergeant Major Miller deployed with the 26th Marine Amphibious Unit. During his tour at New River, Sergeant Major Miller was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal and Corporal. In March of 1987, Sergeant Major Miller reported for duty with Marine Helicopter Squadron ONE (HMX-1), at Quantico, VA.  During the next six years he worked helicopter safe for flight.  In March of 1993, Sergeant Major Miller reported to Marine Security Guard School, and eventually served as a Detachment Commander at the U.S. embassy in Conakry, Guinea in West Africa, and at the embassy in Prague, Czech Republic. In July of 1995, Sergeant Major Miller was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.

Upon completion of his MSG tour in 1996, Sergeant Major Miller reported to HMLA-267 at Camp Pendleton for duty as as maintenance controller. He deployed twice with the HMLA-267 to Okinawa, including a deployment with the 31st MEU. In July of 1999, Sergeant Major Miller was promoted to First Sergeant and reported to 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton. In June of 2001, Sergeant Major Miller was assigned as Company First Sergeant for Communications Company, for 1st Marine Division Headquarters Battalion.  During that tour, Sergeant Major Miller deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom from February 2003 to September 2003, where he served as the Headquarters Battalion Sergeant Major.

In December of 2003, Sergeant Major Miller reported as Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 268 at Camp Pendleton. From August 2004 to March 2005, he returned to Iraq in support of OIF II, at Al Taqqadum, and again from February 2006 to September 2006.

From May of 2007 to October 2010, Sergeant Major Miller served as the Sergeant Major of Marine Aircraft Group 49 and the Site Sergeant Major NAS JRB Willow Grove.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (gold start in lieu of third award), the Air Medal with strike/flight numeral "4", the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), various unit awards, the Presidential service badge, and the Combat Aircrew insignia.
