Update: Marine found dead in Camp Kinser Tower

Staff Sergeant Ronald L. Williams, 29, of Anchorage, Alaska, was found dead in his quarters aboard Camp Kinser on January 30, 2012. The cause of death is under investigation.

Williams was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Marine Corps Installations Pacific. He joined the Marine Corps June 5, 2001 and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant March 1, 2011. He arrived on Okinawa March 31, 2011.

Williams, an Aircraft Rescue & Fire-fighting Marine, received (2) Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, (2) Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

"We have lost a respected and beloved member of the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron family with the passing of Staff Sergeant Ronald Lee Williams. No words can be offered to his surviving family that will alleviate the hurt that assails them now, but I hope that they can find some comfort in the fact that Staff Sergeant Williams was a Marine whose personality, character, and work ethic was respected throughout the squadron and whose passing is felt by each and every Marine whose lives he touched," said Colonel James G. Flynn, Marine Corps Air Station, Futenma Commanding Officer.
