Mission Statement

The mission of the public affairs office is to be the commander’s voice to a wide range of audiences. This is done by communicating command information rapidly and accurately, being proactive and responsive to external media requests, and by developing MCLB Albany’s relationship with the Albany community. The public affairs office operates under the Department of Defense’s policy of “Maximum Disclosure, Minimum Delay.”

MCLB Albany Public Affairs Officer – 1st Lt. Caleb D. Eames

1st Lt. Caleb Eames was born in Albany, New York, and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1995 from Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was assigned the MOS of 5711, Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defense Specialist and stationed with the First Marine Division in Camp Pendleton, California.1st Lt. Caleb D. Eames

In 1996, Cpl. Eames was assigned to the Marine Corps NBC Test and Evaluation Unit, and traveled to many military installations throughout the western U.S. evaluating NBC equipment. In 1998, Cpl. Eames applied and was accepted to the Marine Security Guard Program.

His first post was the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, Liberia, where he assisted with the evacuation of U.S. citizens and foreign nationals during ongoing civil unrest. His second post was the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia, in 1999.

Returning to the U.S. in 2001, Sgt. Eames was assigned as the NBC instructor for MSG Battalion Headquarters in Quantico, Virginia. While there, Sgt. Eames was selected to lead the Marine contingent from Eighth & I Marine Barracks to New York City in support of the United Nations General Assembly 2001. He was in Washington, D.C. during the 9-11 attacks and was sent to New York City with the Diplomatic Security Service in October 2001.

In 2002, Staff Sgt. Eames was reassigned to Combat Service Support Group-3 in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, as the NBC Chief. In 2004, he was augmented to Central Command and assigned to the Iraqi Survey Group with the Defense Intelligence Agency operating out of Baghdad, Iraq. While there, he assisted with preparation of the Duelfer Report to Congress.

In 2005, Gunnery Sgt. Eames was reassigned to the 1st Marine Logistics Group, Combat Logistics Regiment-15, in Camp Pendleton as the NBC and Intelligence Chief. He deployed for the 2nd time to Iraq in 2006 as the CLR-15 Intelligence Chief.

While in Iraq, Gunnery Sgt. Eames received orders to report to Officer Candidate School under the Enlisted Commissioning Program. After commissioning and graduation, he was given the MOS of 4302, Public Affairs Officer, and was assigned to the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Georgia.

His decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4), the Combat Action Ribbon (2), the Good Conduct Medal (3), and the National Defense Medal (2).

The Emblem – The Emblem is a commercial enterprise newspaper and is an authorized publication for members of the military services. The contents do not necessarily reflect the official views of the U.S. Government, the Department of Defense, or the U.S. Marine Corps, and do not imply endorsement thereof. The Emblem is distributed weekly to approximately 3,500 readers every Thursday. The public affairs office welcomes submissions for publication from members of the base or tenant commands.
