6th Marine Corps District

Commanding Officer Bio Photo   Colonel Paul Timoney was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May of 1987 after completing the Platoon Leaders Course and graduating from St Joseph’s University. Upon completion of The Basic School and Basic Communications Officer Course in June 1988, he was assigned as the Communications Officer for MASS 3, MACG 38, 3rd MAW, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

   In May of 1990, he was augmented and received a regular commission. Shortly thereafter, he was transferred to Marine Corps Recruiting Station Jacksonville, Fla., for duty as the Operations Officer, serving in that capacity until May 1993. From May of 1993 until June of 1994 he was a student at the Command and Control Systems Course in Quantico VA.

   Upon graduation, he was assigned to MWSG 17, 1st MAW, Okinawa, Japan for duty as the S-6 Officer. During that period he participated in exercises throughout the Pacific theater. He was then transferred in June 1995 to 1st Marine Division.

   Upon arriving at 1st Marine Division, he was assigned as Operations Officer and then Commanding Officer of Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion. In December 1996 he was assigned to 11th Marine Regiment, where he served as Regimental S-6 until May of 1998.

   Departing 1st Marine Division in May 1998, Colonel Timoney reported to MCRD Parris Island, S.C., for duty as the Operations Officer, AC/S Recruiting, Eastern Recruiting Region, where he coordinated the development and execution of the annual contracting and shipping plan for the Eastern Recruiting Region.

   In June of 2001, Colonel Timoney was transferred to 9th Communication Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif., where he assumed duties as Commanding Officer of Service Company. In June of 2002, he assumed duties as Battalion Executive Officer and deployed with the battalion to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

   In July of 2003 he was transferred to HQMC C4 for duty as the MAGTF C4 Capabilities Branch Head, then as the Operations Officer, Strategic Plans Division. In May of 2006, Colonel Timoney was transferred to MCRD Parris Island and assumed command of Third Recruit Training Battalion. 

   Upon completion of his command tour, he attended the Naval War College earning a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. 

   In July of 2009, Colonel Timoney assumed command of the Sixth Marine Corps District aboard Parris Island, S.C.

   His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with Two Gold Stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star.
