Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Fontenot was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in May 1992, having completed his undergraduate education at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Following Basic School he was assigned to 8th Marines in March 1993 as the Assistant Intelligence officer. In April 1994 he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines as the Intelligence officer where he participated in various exercises and a unit deployment to the Western Pacific.
In May 1996 Lieutenant Colonel Fontenot was transferred to Recruiting Station Montgomery, Alabama where he served as Operations Officer and Executive Officer. From August 1999 to May 2000 Lieutenant Colonel Fontenot attended Amphibious Warfare School.
Ordered to Okinawa in May 2000, Lieutenant Colonel Fontenot served as a Platoon Commander and Company Commander in 3d Intelligence Battalion. The following year, Lieutenant Colonel Fontenot was assigned to the 31st MEU as the Assistant Intelligence Officer, where he participated in various exercises and deployments in the Western Pacific, including humanitarian support operations in East Timor. In August 2002 Lieutenant Colonel Fontenot was reassigned to 3d Marine Division and served as the Deputy AC/S G-2 and JTF 555 J-2 Operations Officer in support of anti-terrorist operations in the Southern Philippines.
In July 2003 Lieutenant Colonel Fontenot was transferred to the 8th Marine Corps District where he served as the Assistant for Enlisted Recruiting until 2006.
In May 2006 he reported to Officer Candidate School and served as company commander of a ten-week candidate company, which graduated in August 2006. From August 2006 to June 2007 he attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, graduating with a Masters of Military Studies. In July 2007 he reported to the 6th Marine Corps District and served as Director of Recruiting Operations until assuming his current role as the Executive Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Fontenot’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
