Major Harry K. Thompson graduated recruit training from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in December 1992.
He then served as a telephone/switchboard technician and maintenance chief with 3rd FSSG, Okinawa Japan and MWSS-272, MCAS New River.
In 1997 he was accepted to the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program. In 2000, Maj. Thompson graduated from Virginia Tech and received his commission. He completed The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course and was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, in Camp Pendleton, Calif.
He served as a weapons platoon commander with Company L and deployed in support of Western Pacific 2-02 and Operation Iraqi Freeedom I.
From 2003 to 2005, Maj. Thompson served as a series commander for Company A and company commander for Company D, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD Parris Island, S.C.
In January 2006 Maj. Thompson was assigned as an Individual Augment for Company C, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, and deployed as a platoon commander in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 05-07.
On his return in 2006, he attended the Manuever Captains Career Course and received orders to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines.
From 2007 to 2010 Maj. Thompson served as a rifle and weapons company commander and deployed in support of the 31st and 11th Marine Expeditionary Units.
In June 2010, Maj. Thompson reported to RS Nashville.
Maj. Thompson’s personal decorations include the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V, two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat V and Gold Star in lieu of second award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
