Major Weis, a native of Toms River, NJ, graduated from Rutgers University in May 1992. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and graduated from recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, SC. In Jan 1993 he graduated from the School of Infantry (SOI-East) as a Marine Rifleman.
From Jan 1993 to Sep 1996, Major Weis served in the 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC with India Company 3/2, 2d Small Craft Company, and Echo Company 2/2. In 1993-1994 he deployed with the 26 MEU(SOC) and participated in Op RESTORE HOPE and Op JOINT ENDEAVOR. In 1995 he deployed to Panama with 2d Small Craft Company. In 1996 he deployed with the 22 MEU(SOC) and participated in Op ASSURED RESPONSE and Op QUICK RESPONSE.
In Sep 1996 Major Weis attended Officer Candidates School via the Enlisted Commissioning Program (ECP); was commissioned a 2ndLt in Dec 1996; graduated from The Basic School in Jun 1997; and graduated from the Field Artillery Officers Basic Course in Feb 1998 as an Artillery Officer.
From Feb 1998 to Jun 2000, he served with Romeo Battery 5/10, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC, as a Platoon Commander, Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer, and Executive Officer. During this tour he deployed to Okinawa and Korea as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP).
From Jul 2000 to Feb 2003, Major Weis served at Officer Candidates School, Quantico, VA, as the Testing & Evaluation Officer, Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Headquarters and Service Company Commanding Officer. Following this tour he attended the Field Artillery Captains Career Course, Ft Sill, OK, graduating in Aug 2003.
From Aug 2003 to Apr 2006, Major Weis served with 2d Battalion, 11th Marines (2/11), 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA. During this tour he served as the Commanding Officer of Golf Battery and deployed to Iraq in support of Op IRAQI FREEDOM from Aug 2004 to Mar 2005. Following deployment he served as the Battalion Logistics Officer and Operations Officer.
From May 2006 to May 2009, Major Weis served at the U.S. Naval Academy as the 19th Company Officer. During this tour he also earned a Masters degree (MPS) in Leadership, Education and Student Development from the University of Maryland.
Upon completion of his tour at the Naval Academy, Major Weis assumed his current position as Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Orlando, in June 2009.
