



LIEUTENANT RAY F. RIVERS
LT. Rivers was born in Sumter, South Carolina in 1964. He graduated from Wilson Hall Academy in 1982 and attended The Citadel. He graduated from United States Marine Corps Officer Candidates Course Platoon Leaders Course Junior in 1984 and Platoon Leaders Course Senior in 1985 and was commissioned upon graduation from The Citadel as a Marine Corps Second Lieutenant in 1986.
Upon graduation from the Basic School, 2nd Lt Rivers attended the Infantry Officer’s Course (IOC), Quantico, Va. He reported for duty to 1st Battalion 8th Marines as a rifle platoon commander where he served 1987-1988. 2nd Lt Rivers then reported to Mar Det Unitas for service and deployed as a rifle platoon commander where he served from 1988-1989.
In 1989, 1st Lt Rivers reported to Headquarters Company, Headquarters Battalion, 2D Mar Div as the Company Executive Officer. In June 1989, 1st Lt. Rivers reported to the Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as Alpha Company Executive Officer. In December of 1989, 1st Lt. Rivers became the Alpha Company Commander and was promoted to Captain in 1990.
In 1991, Captain Rivers reported to Parris Island, South Carolina as a Series Officer in Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion and served until 1992 as a Series Officer and Hotel Company Executive Officer. In 1992, Captain Rivers transferred to Headquarters Battalion, where he served as the Operations Officer. In 1993, Captain Rivers ended his active service and subsequently served as the Adjutant of 2nd Battalion 14th Marines until 1994 where he went on Inactive Ready Reserve status in the United States Marine Corps Reserve until 1999.
While on active duty, Captain Rivers completed a Masters of Arts in Management from Websters University in 1993 and upon release from active duty, Mr. Rivers entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1993, Mr. Rivers was licensed as a minster of the gospel of Jesus Christ by Rosen Heights Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1994, Mr. Rivers was ordained as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ by the Baptist Church of Beaufort in Beaufort, South Carolina.
In 1995, Reverend Rivers began to pastor Paluxy Baptist Church in Paluxy, Texas and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1996. Reverend Rivers continued to serve as senior pastor at Paluxy Baptist Church until 2005.
Reverend Rivers was commissioned as Lieutenant Rivers of the Chaplain Corps, United States Navy in April of 2005 and entered the Navy Chaplain School in June 2005. He graduated in August 2005 and reported for duty as the Protestant Chaplain for the USS John F. Kennedy CV 67 in Jacksonville, Florida, where he served as part of the crew that decommissioned the USS John F. Kennedy.
In July of 2007, Lieutenant Rivers reported to 2D Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for duty and was assigned to 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion as the Battalion Chaplain where he deployed with the battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008 and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009.
In June of 2010, Lieutenant Rivers reported to Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he was assigned as the Chaplain for the Marine Corps Engineer School at Courthouse Bay. He currently provides ministry for the Joint Maritime Training Center and the Weapons Training Battalion, Camp Lejeune, as well as the Marine Corps Engineer School. Lieutenant Rivers’ awards include the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal x2 and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal..
