Marine Corps Engineer School

Commanding Officer

  Col Peter M. Ramey

Col Ramey was born in Anderson, Indiana and grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota.  Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, completing recruit training at Parris Island.  He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Engineering, was commissioned and then reported to The Basic School.

Starting out at 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, he later served at 6th, 8th and 9th Engineer Support Battalions, the Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Marine Corps Bases Japan, and I and III Marine Expeditionary Force Command Elements.  He commanded several engineer companies in the Division and Force Service Support Group, as well as a company in the supporting establishment.  He served as the Joint Task Force Engineer for humanitarian relief/border enforcement operations in Cuba and as the Joint Task Force Executive Officer and Operations Officer in support of peace-keeping in East Timor.  His combat tours include command of an engineer detachment to 2nd Marine Division during Operation Desert Storm (Saudi Arabia and Kuwait), and as the Force Engineer for Operations Enduring Freedom (Kuwait) and Operations Iraqi Freedom and Iraqi Freedom 1.  His last command tour was at 6th Engineer Support Battalion.  He most recently served as the Assistant Chief of Staff, Facilities Engineer and the Defense Policy Review Initiative Program Director for Marine Corps Bases Japan, and as the Marine Forces Japan Engineer.  Currently, Col Ramey is the Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Engineer Center at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Col Ramey has completed the Combat Engineer Officers Course, Engineer Equipment Officers Course, Amphibious Warfare School, Engineer Officers Advanced Course, Advanced Logistics Officers Course, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Marine Corps Logistics Education Program and the Air War College.

His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of third award, Joint Service Commendation Medal with bronze oak leaf cluster in lieu of second award, Navy - Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy - Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
