3. Oceanside Unified School District
The School Liaisons are working with Oceanside Unified SD to offer school
registration (K-8) for in-bound military families. From their calls, they
know that parents get very nervous about getting their children enrolled in
school which can be somewhat frustrating during the summer. Please pass
this along to your families?
The first day of school will be Thursday, AUGUST 27TH
Please call (760)-763-7387, 7386, 7385 if you have questions.
4. New Show Looking for a Wounded Warrior
Ladies and Gentleman,
Carla Jurczynski was recently contacted by Melysa Lovell with NBC, who is
looking for a wounded warrior to be on their show "Breakthrough" with Tony
Robbins. It is the same group that does "Extreme Home Makeover" and "Biggest
Loser." A description of "Breakthrough" is in the forwarded message below.
Melysa has asked Carla to help her find a candidate. When she asked her what
their "ideal story" would be, she said that they are looking for a wounded
Iraq/Afghanistan veteran whose injuries (physical/mental/emotional) have
prevented them from realizing a life goal that they had before their combat
experience. She said they would prefer if the service member had a family.
She also said that they need to be free of legal trouble and need to be
mentally stable (ie not suicidal/homicidal).
Melysa gave Carla the impression that the service member who participates
will have a lot of perks associated with their participation. If their theme
is consistent with the "extreme home makeover" show, she thinks they would
probably generously help the service member realize the goal that has been
put on hold due to their injuries. This could be a great opportunity for
someone who is willing to tell their story.
Please let Carla Jurczynski know if you have someone in mind and is approved
from the command - She would like to get back to her ASAP so that we can
help one of our Marines before they find someone else!
Melysa recently came across Veterans Village of San Diego website and wanted
to reach out to them. From what she read on the website, they help
Soldiers/Marines returning from duty and suffering from PTSD. She is not
sure if you are familiar with Tony Robbins but on this show Tony will use
his skills to help deserving individuals who have suffered terrible setbacks
in their lives. After tragic events, overcoming emotional pain, debilitating
fears and physical injury may feel impossible. Moving forward takes enormous
courage and incredible support, coaching and attention. Here is a
description of Tony and the show. If you know of anyone that may have
interest in receiving help from Tony and be willing to participate on the
show, please feel free to call her. Melysa Lovell (323) 860-8659
Tony Robbins is a bestselling author, philanthropist, advisor and
inspirational speaker to Fortune 500 executives, sports professionals and
world leaders. In Breakthrough he'll use his extraordinary skills to help
deserving individuals who have suffered terrible setbacks in their lives.
Their hopes and dreams have been shattered, but now they're ready to step up
and, with Tony's help, make the changes they so desperately need. Through
tough emotional challenges, Breakthrough will inspire people to search out
the tools to forever their change their lives, and to reach out and help
others as well.
5. "Little Warrior's Surf Camp"
http://www.freedomisnotfree.com/special-events/surfcamp.php
This event is now open to all active duty families with a preference for
families of wounded warriors.
"FREEDOM IS NOT FREE is proud to announce the 2009 'Little Warriors' Surf
Camp for the children of wounded and fallen service members. The 2009 camp
will be held in beautiful La Jolla Shores and will feature 1/2-day sessions

The camp is open to 100 registrants, ages 8-16. Each group of 20 campers
will attend one day of the camp and will receive personalized instruction
from the highly qualified instructors at Surf Diva. We are limiting the camp
to 100 participants so that we can maximize the experience for each child.
This year's camp is FREE to children of wounded and fallen service members
and veterans. We will provide water and lunch, and Surf Diva will provide
each camper with a rash guard and ball cap or t-shirt to commemorate their
experiences. Freedom Is Not Free will also give each child that attends a
special gift to ensure your Little Warrior has fond memories of his/her
experience for years to come.
To register, complete the application on line and download the release form
(link on this page - will be required to be turned in prior to start of
camp). You can call us at Freedom Is Not Free at 858.847.9999, or contact us
