MCT Sergeant Major Biography 

 
 

 

Sergeant Major McCants graduated from Moss Point High School, Moss Point Mississippi in June 1988 and joined the Marine Corps on 7 March 1989. Following completion of recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina, he was assigned to Aberdeen Proving Grounds Aberdeen, Maryland for Small Arms Technician training.

In November 1989, then Private First Class McCants was transferred to Headquarters and Service Company, Marine Corps Base Okinawa, Japan for duty as a Small Arms Repairman.

In November 1990, Lance Corporal McCants was transferred to VMGR-252 at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina for duty as a Small Arms Repairman. During this tour, he participated in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.

In March 1993, Corporal McCants Attended Marine Security Guard School at MSG Battalion, Quantico Virginia. After School, he was assigned as a Watch stander, MSG Detachment, American Consulate, Frankfurt Germany and MSG Detachment, American Embassy, Harare Zimbabwe.

In April 1996, Sergeant McCants was transferred to 1st Light Anti-aircraft Missile Battalion, MCAS Yuma, Arizona for duty as the Battalion Ordnance Chief.

In November 1999, Staff Sergeant McCants was transferred to MCRD San Diego to attend Recruiters School. After school, he was assigned to Recruiting Station Atlanta, where he served as a Canvassing Recruiter and Recruiting Sub-station NCOIC in Douglasville, Georgia.

In March 2003, Gunnery Sergeant McCants was transferred to MCBH Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii for duty as the Battalion Ordnance Chief. During his tour, he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom.

In March 2006, he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and assigned to I&I Staff, Charlie Company, Anti-terrorism Battalion, Jackson Mississippi.

In June 2009, First Sergeant McCants was transferred to Camp Pendleton, CA and assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.

In January 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major and assigned to Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry (West), Camp Pendleton, CA as the Battalion Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major McCants personal awards include Navy Commendation Medal, 2nd award, Navy Achievement Medal, 3d award, and Combat Action Ribbon.
