Gen. Joseph Dunford, Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Lt. Gen. Lawrence Snowden, retired, Iwo Jima survivor, speak about the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Retired U.S. Marine Lt. Gen. Lawrence F. Snowden is honored at the U.S. Marine Memorial Chapel located on Marine Corps Base Quantico, April 8, 2017. Snowden retired in 1979 after nearly 40 years of service, fought in engagements during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. He passed away Feb. 18, 2017. He was prominently known after retirement for organizing joint "Reunion of Honor" missions which is an opportunity for Japanese and U.S. veterans and their families, dignitaries, leaders and service members from both nations to come together to remember the Battle of Iwo Jima.
