SUBJ/ARMED FORCES DAY//
GENTEXT/REMARKS/1.  Armed Forces Day was created to honor all Americans serving in our military.  This day began on 20 May 1950 and today we commemorate its 66th anniversary.
2.  Armed Forces Day is reserved to honor those men and women who have sworn a solemn oath to defend our great nation and who offered their very lives in defense of freedom.  We have volunteered to serve something greater than self in order to preserve our country, values and liberty.
3.  As we celebrate Armed Forces Day, let us not forget our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and members of the Coast Guard who continue to protect our constitution and freedom.  On behalf of all Marines, I extend my appreciation for all those who have volunteered to serve.  Thank you for your commitment, dedication and patriotism.
4.  Semper Fidelis, Robert B. Neller, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.//
