General Studds was commissioned into the Marine Corps in 1960 and served the following 33 years as an Infantry Officer. He commanded Marines at all levels including; Commander, Charlie Company, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star with Combat "V" for valor and was the Director of Marine Corps Intelligence during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Studds concluded his devout career as the Commanding General, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.
