U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jason Roberts, a boatswain, assigned to the Essex Amphibious Ready Group, watches as a U.S. Marine CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 166 Reinforced, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, approaches the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Rushmore, Jan. 5, 2019. The Essex ARG and the 13th MEU are deployed to the U.S. 5th fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
