Sgt. Ryan Hetu, from Pittsfield, New Jersey, loads rounds into an ammo can while flying in a CH-53E Super Stallion Jan. 14 during exercise Lava Viper 15-1.2 at Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii. The rounds will be used by a GAU-21 .50-caliber machine gun. The ammo can holds 300 .50-caliber rounds. Two CH-53Es flew on a simulated air mission. The training improves the aerial gunners’ ability to engage targets and coordinate fire between two aircraft. The aircraft is from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463, Marine Aircraft group 24, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. Hetu is a crew chief with HMH-463.
