WEBVTT 00:00.340 --> 00:02.940 Yeah , I received the ROTC scholarship 00:02.940 --> 00:05.051 my senior year of high school . And , 00:05.051 --> 00:07.329 yeah , I did four years of the program , 00:07.329 --> 00:07.240 and the day I graduated college , I 00:07.240 --> 00:09.351 commissioned as a second lieutenant , 00:13.140 --> 00:15.473 so the scholarship covered full tuition . 00:15.473 --> 00:18.270 Um , I got stipend for books . Also got , 00:18.270 --> 00:21.310 like , a 250 to $400 monthly stipend 00:21.310 --> 00:23.532 just for basic living expenses . Really 00:23.532 --> 00:25.532 cool thing about an ROTC is that it 00:25.532 --> 00:27.866 gives you enough structure , uh , where , 00:27.866 --> 00:29.921 you know , you can make a big school 00:29.921 --> 00:29.570 smaller . You have an instant group of 00:29.570 --> 00:31.626 friends and you have meaning towards 00:31.626 --> 00:33.800 your your school experience . Um , but 00:33.800 --> 00:35.911 it's , you know , it's not . It's not 00:35.911 --> 00:38.078 super rigid . Like I had the life of a 00:38.078 --> 00:37.950 normal college student . I was able to 00:37.950 --> 00:40.061 choose whatever major I wanted . So I 00:40.061 --> 00:41.950 studied history while also taking 00:41.950 --> 00:44.006 usually wanted to enter OTC specific 00:44.006 --> 00:46.400 classes coming up in high school . 00:48.040 --> 00:50.151 For me , being a Marine Corps officer 00:50.151 --> 00:52.040 was actually not something that I 00:52.040 --> 00:54.040 always wanted to do . It was really 00:54.040 --> 00:56.262 like an evolving process as I was going 00:56.262 --> 00:55.650 through high school and really starting 00:55.650 --> 00:57.817 to think about where I wanted to go to 00:57.817 --> 00:59.872 school and most importantly , what I 00:59.872 --> 01:02.039 wanted to do with my life . Um , after 01:02.039 --> 01:03.928 college , um , And for me , I was 01:03.928 --> 01:06.094 looking at my values that I was always 01:06.094 --> 01:05.430 in sports , and I really cared about 01:05.430 --> 01:08.440 community service . Um , and I was 01:08.440 --> 01:10.551 really set on the military . And as I 01:10.551 --> 01:12.718 was doing more and more research about 01:12.718 --> 01:14.829 the different branches , uh , to me , 01:14.829 --> 01:14.760 the values of the Marine Corps had , as 01:14.760 --> 01:16.704 far as , like , you know , honor , 01:16.704 --> 01:16.410 courage , commitment . Those are the 01:16.410 --> 01:18.410 obvious ones , but more of like the 01:18.410 --> 01:20.688 spirit , like the fighting spirit . Um , 01:20.688 --> 01:22.799 and just like the warrior mentality , 01:22.799 --> 01:22.070 those are something that the other 01:22.070 --> 01:24.292 branches just really didn't have . Um , 01:24.292 --> 01:26.514 so that's why I was drawn to the Marine 01:26.514 --> 01:28.681 Corps specifically , and I didn't know 01:28.681 --> 01:28.650 a whole lot about it at the time . 01:29.240 --> 01:31.351 Definitely took a big leap of faith , 01:31.351 --> 01:33.580 But from the second I showed up for 01:33.590 --> 01:35.812 freshman orientation and all throughout 01:35.812 --> 01:37.812 my four years of school docs in the 01:37.812 --> 01:39.812 fleet , um , yeah , my decision was 01:39.812 --> 01:41.923 only reinforced , like I you know , I 01:41.923 --> 01:43.923 felt more and more in love with the 01:43.923 --> 01:46.090 Marine Corps the further along I got . 01:46.090 --> 01:48.146 And , like I said before , the thing 01:48.146 --> 01:47.950 that I think really sets the NRCC 01:47.950 --> 01:49.894 partner apart . As far as like the 01:49.894 --> 01:51.950 officers that produces the fact that 01:51.950 --> 01:53.950 you have four years of Marine Corps 01:53.950 --> 01:53.840 specific experience where you're being 01:53.840 --> 01:55.896 mentored by a captain , you're being 01:55.896 --> 01:58.062 mentored by gunnery Sergeant , and you 01:58.062 --> 02:00.118 have those experiences to draw . And 02:00.118 --> 02:02.062 before you start your Marine Corps 02:02.062 --> 02:00.660 career ,
