Hey , appreciate 02:14.330 --> 02:16.441 everybody for coming . Uh Certainly , 02:16.441 --> 02:18.441 uh General Sullivan , thank you for 02:18.441 --> 02:20.608 your time . Um And , and uh support to 02:20.608 --> 02:22.719 the program . If you guys didn't know 02:22.719 --> 02:25.052 those comment match M-16s that you shot , 02:25.052 --> 02:27.163 the General Sullivan made sure we got 02:27.163 --> 02:29.330 money for that . Uh So PWS could build 02:29.330 --> 02:31.441 those and to give you guys an edge in 02:31.441 --> 02:33.441 competition . So thank you for your 02:33.441 --> 02:32.860 time , sir . It means a lot to the 02:32.869 --> 02:34.925 shooting team and for us to have you 02:34.925 --> 02:37.147 here um for any , any unit leaders that 02:37.147 --> 02:39.313 are here . And obviously , if you're , 02:39.313 --> 02:41.369 we've got folks from Okinawa to Camp 02:41.369 --> 02:43.313 Lee . So if you're , you're C OS R 02:43.313 --> 02:45.480 major companies , you know , battalion 02:45.480 --> 02:47.480 squadron aren't able to come here . 02:47.480 --> 02:49.591 Definitely , please tell them . Thank 02:49.591 --> 02:51.702 you for me . I know we pay for this . 02:51.702 --> 02:53.591 Uh But , but we can't make up for 02:53.591 --> 02:55.647 really between your regional mic and 02:55.647 --> 02:55.199 your time here , Marine Corps 02:55.210 --> 02:57.321 Championships . We can't make up what 02:57.321 --> 02:59.488 you do in your unit . Uh , for the two 02:59.488 --> 03:01.432 weeks you're gone . I see some ITV 03:01.432 --> 03:03.710 instructors , uh , et cetera . So it's , 03:03.710 --> 03:05.766 it's a big deal for you to be here . 03:05.766 --> 03:07.766 And uh , uh please tell your , your 03:07.766 --> 03:09.877 leadership that I personally , uh I'm 03:09.877 --> 03:09.360 thankful to the family members . We 03:09.369 --> 03:11.369 have somebody here . Uh Thank you . 03:11.369 --> 03:13.369 What learned at this battalion is a 03:13.369 --> 03:15.091 competitive Marman shift is an 03:15.091 --> 03:17.258 addiction and you probably know better 03:17.258 --> 03:19.480 than I do cause that impacts the uh the 03:19.480 --> 03:21.647 pocketbook . Um if they're shooting on 03:21.647 --> 03:23.480 their own out in town , but also 03:23.480 --> 03:25.702 impacts uh time away from home . And as 03:25.702 --> 03:27.869 marines , we do quite a lot of that um 03:27.869 --> 03:29.980 for distinguished uh distinguished uh 03:29.980 --> 03:32.147 marksmen Shooters Association . Thanks 03:32.147 --> 03:34.036 for being here , a continuance of 03:34.036 --> 03:36.147 support . We appreciate uh uh again , 03:36.147 --> 03:38.258 our veteran service organizations for 03:38.258 --> 03:37.899 paying attention to what we do and 03:37.910 --> 03:39.966 continue to support the program . It 03:39.966 --> 03:41.910 means a lot to us . Um I'd like to 03:41.910 --> 03:44.132 thank the , the shooting team . Um They 03:44.132 --> 03:46.639 uh they go to every mic mic but on 03:46.649 --> 03:48.816 every regional mic mic and they , they 03:48.816 --> 03:50.760 really , in my mind went above and 03:50.760 --> 03:52.927 beyond what I asked them to do as we , 03:52.927 --> 03:55.038 as we're thinking through , um what , 03:55.038 --> 03:57.093 what is the best shooting discipline 03:57.093 --> 03:59.260 and the type of shooting that we asked 03:59.260 --> 04:01.371 you guys to do to , to accomplish the 04:01.371 --> 04:03.371 mission of the combat uh combat and 04:03.371 --> 04:05.149 arms program , uh , which is to 04:05.149 --> 04:07.427 increase the lethal of the total force . 04:07.427 --> 04:07.089 I think they did a really great job of 04:07.100 --> 04:09.267 that . So , let's give them a round of 04:09.267 --> 04:09.110 applause , please . 04:16.079 --> 04:18.190 I think the confirmation brief , uh , 04:18.190 --> 04:20.412 and all , all the , all the things they 04:20.412 --> 04:22.690 threw at you . I did it , uh , it , uh , 04:22.690 --> 04:24.635 it warmed , it warmed me and I , I 04:24.635 --> 04:26.968 smiled because Marine NC , OS and Staff , 04:26.968 --> 04:28.912 NC OS certainly are devious and uh 04:28.912 --> 04:28.709 they're devious . Uh setting up hard 04:28.720 --> 04:30.776 competitions for you . And if you're 04:30.776 --> 04:32.831 Russian or Chinese , you should , uh 04:32.831 --> 04:34.998 you should be really concerned because 04:34.998 --> 04:37.164 uh we have the best NC Os and Staff NC 04:37.164 --> 04:39.276 OS around and then to the competitors 04:39.276 --> 04:41.553 again . Thank , thank , thank you guys . 04:41.553 --> 04:43.720 Right . I it's not easy to go ask your 04:43.720 --> 04:45.776 boss uh to , to leave again . Um And 04:45.776 --> 04:47.942 again , you are important to where you 04:47.942 --> 04:50.109 come , where you come from . So thanks 04:50.109 --> 04:49.929 for , for being dedicated to the 04:49.940 --> 04:51.829 program . And I , like I said , I 04:51.829 --> 04:54.051 believe that we , we did accomplish the 04:54.051 --> 04:55.996 mission of the competition in arms 04:55.996 --> 04:58.107 program this last week . And uh while 04:58.107 --> 05:00.107 in the competition there is a first 05:00.107 --> 05:02.329 person that means there's a last person 05:02.329 --> 05:04.273 but realize you guys , you doesn't 05:04.273 --> 05:06.496 matter . I don't care what you placed . 05:06.496 --> 05:06.200 I know you guys care what you place and 05:06.209 --> 05:08.470 I don't because you're here and , and 05:08.480 --> 05:10.769 you tried and every once in a while I 05:10.779 --> 05:13.040 try , I shot mm East and uh my 05:13.049 --> 05:15.271 performance wasn't too hot . Um But you 05:15.271 --> 05:16.959 tried and , and you take this 05:16.970 --> 05:19.303 profession of arms seriously . And , uh , 05:19.303 --> 05:21.959 and I'm proud of you for that . Um So 05:22.079 --> 05:24.246 just , I'll , I'll be brief . We wanna 05:24.246 --> 05:26.301 turn it over to General Sullivan and 05:26.301 --> 05:28.412 really get the awards to the , to the 05:28.412 --> 05:30.635 folks who did the hard work . But I get 05:30.635 --> 05:32.746 asked a lot in this job as we look at 05:32.746 --> 05:34.857 modernizing marksmanship . You know , 05:34.857 --> 05:34.730 what is , what doing in the Marine 05:34.739 --> 05:36.850 Corps is every marina rifle and still 05:36.850 --> 05:38.850 important . I just wanna talk about 05:38.850 --> 05:41.072 that a little bit . Um Sort of , it's , 05:41.072 --> 05:43.239 it's what I like to talk about a lot . 05:43.239 --> 05:45.572 But , uh , General Smith just published , 05:45.572 --> 05:47.683 uh Frango 11 T 2024 . And he said , I 05:47.683 --> 05:49.683 quote , we will remain our nation's 05:49.683 --> 05:51.628 exci shock troops that can deliver 05:51.630 --> 05:53.741 combat power from sea to land and now 05:53.741 --> 05:55.750 from land to sea . So when I think 05:55.760 --> 05:58.059 about shock troops , um I think about 05:58.070 --> 06:00.237 you guys shooting close bay at night . 06:00.489 --> 06:02.711 Uh , if , if you don't , I know I'm not 06:02.711 --> 06:04.822 gonna say who the award winners are , 06:04.822 --> 06:06.878 but the top three , we've got a boat 06:06.878 --> 06:06.329 fuel or a comp strap marine and an 06:06.339 --> 06:08.395 infantry marine again . Um , when we 06:08.395 --> 06:10.670 talk about shock troops and , and , and 06:10.679 --> 06:12.790 increasing the lethality of the total 06:12.790 --> 06:15.012 force that , that tells you something . 06:15.012 --> 06:16.846 And I , I mean , that was just a 06:16.846 --> 06:19.123 amazing to watch you guys this week at . 06:19.123 --> 06:21.123 Um , and so you're definitely shock 06:21.123 --> 06:23.235 troops , expeditionary . I think we , 06:23.235 --> 06:23.149 those of us in uniform , we know what 06:23.160 --> 06:25.271 that means . It means living out of a 06:25.271 --> 06:27.438 uh uh our house that we're carrying on 06:27.438 --> 06:29.716 our , on our back and eating challenge , 06:29.716 --> 06:31.882 a plastic bag . It's not too fun , but 06:31.882 --> 06:33.983 as you think through um where we're 06:33.993 --> 06:37.113 going with , with um eabo distributed 06:37.122 --> 06:39.722 operations , if you're at a FARC for 06:39.733 --> 06:42.162 the uh arming reviewing point , uh or 06:42.173 --> 06:44.463 you're at a fire gab to , to shoot a 06:44.472 --> 06:46.694 naval strike missile and sink a Chinese 06:46.694 --> 06:49.028 ship . You're not gonna get , those are , 06:49.028 --> 06:51.028 those jobs are done by non infantry 06:51.028 --> 06:52.861 marines . You're not gonna get a 06:52.861 --> 06:54.972 battalion of infantry marines to come 06:54.972 --> 06:54.763 protect you , right ? Cause we need to 06:54.773 --> 06:56.884 minimize our physical signature cause 06:56.884 --> 06:59.106 we're fighting , we have guys that have 06:59.106 --> 07:01.273 a lot of the same capability . We do , 07:01.273 --> 07:01.246 they have drones , they have sensors , 07:01.256 --> 07:03.423 they have satellites and they're gonna 07:03.423 --> 07:05.478 be able to find a bunch of people on 07:05.478 --> 07:07.700 the ground , right ? Doing what we do , 07:07.700 --> 07:09.589 digging fight holes , uh approved 07:09.589 --> 07:11.589 positions , et cetera . And you , I 07:11.589 --> 07:13.700 don't think in this fight that you're 07:13.700 --> 07:15.923 gonna get an infantry battalion or even 07:15.923 --> 07:15.865 an infantry company or maybe even an 07:15.876 --> 07:18.585 infantry batoon to secure that eab so 07:18.596 --> 07:20.865 your ability regardless of M OS to 07:20.876 --> 07:22.765 remain , every marine rifleman is 07:22.765 --> 07:24.987 usually important . And again , you all 07:24.987 --> 07:27.043 definitely did that . I wanna talk a 07:27.043 --> 07:29.154 little bit just for the audience . Uh 07:29.154 --> 07:31.209 So they know a little about what the 07:31.209 --> 07:33.265 teams threw at at , at you guys this 07:33.265 --> 07:35.487 week . And again , I was , I was really 07:35.487 --> 07:37.598 impressed with , uh , the I idea . So 07:37.598 --> 07:39.320 we always think through like , 07:39.320 --> 07:41.487 obviously the purpose of championships 07:41.487 --> 07:43.432 is to focus on marksmanship . Uh , 07:43.432 --> 07:45.209 General Sullivan runs a fitness 07:45.209 --> 07:47.209 instructor competition . We do do a 07:47.209 --> 07:49.154 marksmanship stage there , but the 07:49.154 --> 07:51.265 purpose of that is , is more physical 07:51.265 --> 07:53.598 fitness and even the marksmanship stage , 07:53.598 --> 07:55.709 we really wanna see , see how you can 07:55.709 --> 07:55.269 shoot under duress . But , but we're 07:55.279 --> 07:57.335 really pushing you to get a good , a 07:57.335 --> 07:59.501 good run time here . We wanna focus on 07:59.501 --> 08:01.557 marksmanship . But , um , uh , but , 08:01.557 --> 08:03.612 and we threw a lot of stuff at you . 08:03.612 --> 08:05.946 You shot it at night , uh , with lasers , 08:05.946 --> 08:08.223 talk about a little bit already closed , 08:08.223 --> 08:10.390 face , a more CQB type shooting out of 08:10.390 --> 08:12.612 distance . We shot a lot of robots . We 08:12.612 --> 08:14.835 flipped tires , we did casualty drags . 08:14.835 --> 08:17.001 Uh , we low crawled and threw grenades 08:17.001 --> 08:19.223 and that was a great stage after , uh , 08:19.223 --> 08:21.279 named after Sergeant Cole from World 08:21.279 --> 08:23.446 War Two who was a French horn player . 08:23.446 --> 08:23.209 Uh , didn't like that M Os . So he 08:23.220 --> 08:25.276 wanted to be a machine gun and got a 08:25.276 --> 08:27.220 metal arm post . You guys , uh , I 08:27.220 --> 08:28.942 think honored him well in your 08:28.942 --> 08:31.164 competition . Um , and we even did some 08:31.164 --> 08:33.220 mechanical breaching and I think for 08:33.220 --> 08:35.442 probably for some of you all , it's the 08:35.442 --> 08:35.440 first time you ever knocked open a door , 08:35.450 --> 08:37.469 kicked open a door and then float 08:37.479 --> 08:39.479 through it and , uh , and took down 08:39.479 --> 08:41.535 some targets but why did we do ? Why 08:41.535 --> 08:43.701 did we do that ? All right . Well , we 08:43.701 --> 08:45.868 did that because uh Gunny Highway is a 08:45.868 --> 08:47.809 fictional character and , and uh 08:47.820 --> 08:49.820 Heartbreak Ridge is the movie and I 08:49.820 --> 08:52.042 cannot actually shoot back at you . And 08:52.042 --> 08:54.153 so in a competition where we do wanna 08:54.153 --> 08:56.264 focus in on your marin shift skills , 08:56.264 --> 08:58.598 we also , we wanna put you in a dilemma , 08:58.598 --> 09:00.931 right ? Cause I can't shoot back at you . 09:00.931 --> 09:00.820 But one of these , hopefully you're 09:00.830 --> 09:02.886 never shot at in harm's way . But if 09:02.886 --> 09:05.052 you are , I want you to be comfortable 09:05.052 --> 09:07.274 in your ability , right ? Flip a couple 09:07.274 --> 09:09.386 of tires , get your heart rate up and 09:09.386 --> 09:11.608 able to put two targets , a nice center 09:11.608 --> 09:13.608 mass or , or in the chest or in the 09:13.608 --> 09:15.719 forehead . And again , you guys did a 09:15.719 --> 09:17.774 great job doing that . Um So again , 09:17.774 --> 09:20.080 just enclosing super great competition , 09:20.090 --> 09:21.923 uh really proud of the teams for 09:21.923 --> 09:24.034 putting it on and really proud of the 09:24.034 --> 09:26.034 competitors for showing up and just 09:26.034 --> 09:28.320 giving it your all by a Sunday when I 09:28.330 --> 09:30.386 showed up to PT and I , I noticed we 09:30.386 --> 09:32.441 weren't , we were , we weren't doing 09:32.441 --> 09:34.608 anything about 930 . I'm like , yeah , 09:34.608 --> 09:36.774 we were tired , we were tired . Uh But 09:36.774 --> 09:36.679 again , the teams didn't cut it . Uh I , 09:36.690 --> 09:38.801 I didn't think cat mods would cut off 09:38.801 --> 09:41.023 some stages . I knew we , we would just 09:41.023 --> 09:43.134 roll star X and I don't think you got 09:43.134 --> 09:45.134 finished yesterday till about seven 09:45.134 --> 09:47.301 team 30 something like that . And then 09:47.301 --> 09:49.579 the teams were there , you know , like , 09:49.579 --> 09:49.280 uh so again , that's what we do in the 09:49.289 --> 09:51.710 Marine Corps , we excel under duress 09:51.719 --> 09:54.099 and , and , and we , we are as perfect 09:54.280 --> 09:55.947 as we can be in the artist of 09:55.947 --> 09:58.113 situations . And again , you all , you 09:58.113 --> 10:00.280 all prove that I think just to be able 10:00.280 --> 10:02.447 to come here to complete the course of 10:02.447 --> 10:04.558 fire . You're , you're a winner in my 10:04.558 --> 10:06.613 book . So congratulations to all the 10:06.613 --> 10:05.880 competitors and obviously we'll get 10:05.890 --> 10:08.940 some uh specific uh congratulations to 10:08.950 --> 10:11.061 each award , but thanks to serve over 10:11.061 --> 10:12.299 to you . I 10:15.179 --> 10:17.235 OK . Uh good afternoon , everybody . 10:17.235 --> 10:19.346 Let me just uh get a thumbs up in the 10:19.346 --> 10:21.457 back if you can hear me . Ok , good . 10:21.830 --> 10:24.070 Um So Greg , uh so you and your man 10:24.219 --> 10:26.280 John uh Meron Capo , thanks . Uh You 10:26.289 --> 10:28.400 don't have to thank me for being here 10:28.400 --> 10:30.622 last year . I wasn't here because I was 10:30.622 --> 10:32.733 traveling and uh for those that don't 10:32.733 --> 10:34.789 know uh weapon training battalion is 10:34.789 --> 10:36.845 one of uh 1706 commands and training 10:36.845 --> 10:36.609 command that spread across the country . 10:36.619 --> 10:39.349 So , um but I made it a , a purpose to 10:39.359 --> 10:41.969 be here this year . So uh I'm thanking 10:41.979 --> 10:45.640 you for inviting me again . Um Before I 10:45.650 --> 10:47.761 get into my uh brief remarks , I just 10:47.761 --> 10:49.983 wanna say congratulations to all of you 10:49.983 --> 10:52.150 that came here to compete . Um There's 10:52.150 --> 10:54.317 other things you could have been doing 10:54.317 --> 10:56.372 right now other than uh spent in the 10:56.372 --> 10:58.317 last week or so here , we all have 10:58.317 --> 11:00.483 important things going on . Um But for 11:00.483 --> 11:02.428 reasons that I will express to you 11:02.428 --> 11:04.539 personally , uh I thank you for being 11:04.539 --> 11:06.650 here cause cause it's important to be 11:06.650 --> 11:08.761 here . Uh And for those who are gonna 11:08.761 --> 11:10.928 be about to be awarded uh even more um 11:10.928 --> 11:13.094 appreciation , gratitude and thanks to 11:13.094 --> 11:15.150 you uh for taking a keen interest in 11:15.150 --> 11:17.206 plying your trade , whether he has a 11:17.206 --> 11:19.317 rifle mar , a rifleman or as an empty 11:19.317 --> 11:21.372 marine . And then for those that are 11:21.372 --> 11:21.289 gonna go on to the inter service um 11:22.000 --> 11:24.609 competitions , my uh guidance to you is 11:24.619 --> 11:27.030 give them help . And uh when marines 11:27.039 --> 11:29.095 are on the battlefield or on a range 11:29.095 --> 11:31.261 with a rifle , people expect something 11:31.261 --> 11:33.539 out of you . Uh And they expect you to , 11:33.539 --> 11:35.761 uh , to show the other services what we 11:35.761 --> 11:38.090 can do as marines . Um Let me ask a 11:38.099 --> 11:40.940 question to , uh to all who are here , 11:40.950 --> 11:43.117 but the competitors in particular , my 11:43.117 --> 11:45.006 question is , uh why are you here 11:47.789 --> 11:50.011 as a competitor ? My question to you is 11:50.011 --> 11:51.733 why , why you're here ? It's a 11:51.733 --> 11:53.789 rhetorical question . I don't expect 11:53.789 --> 11:55.845 you to actually answer out loud . Um 11:55.845 --> 11:57.733 But it's , it's at the core of uh 11:57.733 --> 11:59.622 what's important to me here . And 11:59.622 --> 12:01.511 Colonel Jones , uh talked about a 12:01.511 --> 12:03.678 little bit right . You may answer that 12:03.678 --> 12:05.400 question by saying I need some 12:05.400 --> 12:07.567 ballistic therapy , but , uh I need to 12:07.567 --> 12:09.678 get away from what I do normally . Um 12:09.678 --> 12:11.733 This is a good way for me to , uh to 12:11.733 --> 12:14.270 relieve stress and that's , that's a 12:14.280 --> 12:16.609 fine answer . This , I'm not saying 12:16.619 --> 12:18.841 that that's not a good answer . You may 12:18.841 --> 12:20.675 answer it by saying it's fun but 12:20.675 --> 12:22.841 whether you've been doing it cause you 12:22.841 --> 12:25.008 grew up uh in the country somewhere or 12:25.008 --> 12:27.286 you're newer to it . Uh You know , you , 12:27.286 --> 12:29.341 you start as a kid uh because your , 12:29.341 --> 12:31.508 your parents are some mental introduce 12:31.508 --> 12:33.730 you to it or it's something that you've 12:33.730 --> 12:35.950 uh come to love later on in life . Uh 12:36.520 --> 12:38.742 The fact that it's fun is , is also not 12:38.742 --> 12:41.200 a bad reason for being here . It may be 12:41.210 --> 12:43.043 a pa a personal passion of yours 12:43.469 --> 12:45.859 because this is a skill set that you 12:45.869 --> 12:47.702 can continue to refine over your 12:47.702 --> 12:49.758 lifetime at a certain point . You're 12:49.758 --> 12:52.179 gonna get to , to my age and uh no 12:52.190 --> 12:54.357 matter how hard you try , you probably 12:54.357 --> 12:56.190 die off a little bit if you were 12:56.190 --> 12:56.020 wondering if I was , I just forgot to 12:56.030 --> 12:58.197 put my badges on . I didn't forget and 12:58.197 --> 13:00.308 I don't have any shooting badges like 13:00.308 --> 13:03.150 most of you do um of just a simple 13:03.159 --> 13:05.159 entry mark , right ? But if it's a 13:05.169 --> 13:07.225 personal passion for you because you 13:07.225 --> 13:09.440 wanna be faster , more accurate . Uh 13:09.450 --> 13:11.672 and you can measure that and get better 13:11.672 --> 13:13.839 and better , then that's a good answer 13:13.839 --> 13:16.520 too . Um You may like competition and 13:16.530 --> 13:19.789 uh being here to compete with the best . 13:19.799 --> 13:22.739 Um There's a good reason too . It , it 13:22.750 --> 13:24.972 puts you under stress and adversity and 13:24.972 --> 13:27.194 only under stress and adversity . Do we 13:27.194 --> 13:29.528 grow and some people like to avoid that . 13:29.528 --> 13:31.417 But , uh , that's the only way we 13:31.417 --> 13:33.639 really , uh , can make mistakes , learn 13:33.639 --> 13:36.469 from those mistakes and grow . Uh It 13:36.479 --> 13:38.500 may be because , um , you wanna be 13:38.510 --> 13:41.380 individually better as a marine , right ? 13:41.390 --> 13:43.501 You wanna be more ready for the fight 13:43.501 --> 13:45.940 that uh , Colonel Jones was , was 13:45.950 --> 13:48.172 talking about . All right , there was a 13:48.172 --> 13:51.400 marine , uh , lie Rael who was a higher 13:51.409 --> 13:53.500 squadron commander . Some of you 13:53.510 --> 13:56.270 probably remember this in 2012 , he 13:56.280 --> 13:59.960 died , uh fighting off a , the Taliban 14:00.200 --> 14:03.299 penetration of Bastion airfield , which 14:03.309 --> 14:06.390 is a subsection of Lebanon . All right , 14:06.400 --> 14:08.590 there was no brunch there to be , had 14:09.530 --> 14:12.190 he grabbed his rifle , uh , got the 14:12.200 --> 14:14.311 other marines who were maintainers on 14:14.311 --> 14:16.690 aircraft . So pilots in the ready room 14:16.830 --> 14:18.997 and they counterattacked and then that 14:18.997 --> 14:21.108 counterattack , he died , right ? But 14:21.108 --> 14:24.090 they quickly close that penetration and , 14:24.099 --> 14:26.719 uh , and got out of the business . All 14:26.729 --> 14:28.896 right . So individual improvement is a 14:28.896 --> 14:31.062 good thing . But at the end of the day 14:31.109 --> 14:33.053 and I think , you know , where I'm 14:33.053 --> 14:35.053 going with this , uh This is really 14:35.053 --> 14:37.053 important because of unit readiness 14:37.053 --> 14:39.165 because those of us that have been in 14:39.165 --> 14:40.998 the Marine Corps for 30 years or 14:40.998 --> 14:43.099 something approaching that , uh , we 14:43.109 --> 14:45.950 have fought in , in multiple wars . 14:45.960 --> 14:47.627 We've been on multiple combat 14:47.627 --> 14:49.627 deployments . Uh But if you were to 14:49.627 --> 14:51.710 average the amount of time between 14:51.719 --> 14:53.886 conflict from World War One to today , 14:54.219 --> 14:56.441 it's roughly between 5 to 10 years that 14:56.441 --> 14:58.663 we're in some kind of major dustup that 14:58.663 --> 15:00.775 requires you to deploy marines into a 15:00.775 --> 15:03.840 combat zone . Uh , and if you're gonna 15:03.849 --> 15:05.960 stay in for five years , you're gonna 15:05.960 --> 15:08.071 stay in for 15 or 20 or longer . Uh , 15:08.071 --> 15:10.650 that will be you again someday and you 15:10.659 --> 15:12.881 may be heading for the exit and getting 15:12.881 --> 15:14.826 out of the Marine Corps , which is 15:14.826 --> 15:14.679 perfectly fine , but you will leave 15:14.690 --> 15:17.219 marines behind who will go into combat . 15:18.270 --> 15:20.492 All right . So this is only important . 15:20.492 --> 15:22.492 Everything that happens here . What 15:22.492 --> 15:24.326 this friend of battalion is only 15:24.326 --> 15:26.437 important because it prepares marines 15:26.437 --> 15:28.492 to go into combat again individually 15:28.492 --> 15:30.603 and as a unit . Right ? And I don't , 15:30.603 --> 15:32.826 please don't read into that . I applaud 15:32.826 --> 15:35.103 you for the individual accomplishments . 15:35.103 --> 15:37.326 That's important to recognize that , to 15:37.326 --> 15:39.919 recognize that expertise but lethality 15:39.929 --> 15:42.169 in our use of small arms that will 15:42.179 --> 15:44.346 never go away no matter what you think 15:44.346 --> 15:46.568 about force design 2030 what it says we 15:46.568 --> 15:48.729 can now do , we can attack from shore 15:48.739 --> 15:51.330 to sea with long-range weapon systems , 15:52.119 --> 15:54.063 high explosive uh weapon systems . 15:54.063 --> 15:56.909 Those are important . But at the end of 15:56.919 --> 15:59.289 the day , we will have to put marines 15:59.359 --> 16:01.909 on foreign soil at some point in the 16:01.919 --> 16:04.030 future to achieve our nation's goal , 16:04.030 --> 16:06.141 whatever that may be right . And they 16:06.141 --> 16:08.270 will have to employ their small armed 16:08.280 --> 16:10.002 individual weapons and do that 16:10.002 --> 16:12.919 collectively to be successful . Now , 16:13.229 --> 16:15.396 um , I don't know if you know this and 16:15.396 --> 16:17.580 I'm sure it was time . Um , it wasn't 16:17.590 --> 16:20.059 accidental but if you were to go to uh 16:20.309 --> 16:22.929 Recor Association publication called um , 16:23.880 --> 16:26.158 the Leather Neck Magazine . Last month , 16:26.158 --> 16:27.936 they published an article about 16:27.936 --> 16:31.109 Brigadier General Watch Island , right ? 16:31.909 --> 16:34.450 Who I knew nothing about , uh , until I 16:34.460 --> 16:37.479 took this job last year and was made 16:37.489 --> 16:39.600 aware of the different uh awards that 16:39.600 --> 16:41.822 you're presented here . But that , that 16:41.822 --> 16:43.933 award right there . Uh If you were to 16:43.933 --> 16:46.479 go back into a picture of him in 1920 16:47.320 --> 16:49.729 that , that award that's now encased in 16:49.739 --> 16:51.906 wood is the same exact trophy that was 16:51.906 --> 16:55.900 handed out back then and back 16:55.909 --> 16:58.950 then he was a major and he was a lawyer . 16:58.960 --> 17:00.849 He just graduated law school as a 17:00.849 --> 17:03.071 marine and they put him in charge of uh 17:03.071 --> 17:05.349 being the inspector of target practice . 17:05.560 --> 17:07.609 That was his job . That was his 17:07.619 --> 17:09.890 official title . I think we got that 17:09.900 --> 17:11.900 wrong in terms of what the official 17:11.900 --> 17:13.956 title was . But his responsibilities 17:13.956 --> 17:17.469 were to develop uh and construct live 17:17.479 --> 17:19.699 fire rangers to institute a co 17:19.709 --> 17:21.931 competitive marksmanship program in the 17:21.931 --> 17:23.709 Marine Corps and to oversee the 17:23.709 --> 17:25.876 execution of the Marine Corps shooting 17:25.876 --> 17:27.820 team in international and national 17:27.820 --> 17:30.042 competitions . All right . Sounds a lot 17:30.042 --> 17:31.876 like the CEO of weapons training 17:31.876 --> 17:33.987 battalion . Uh Although you have more 17:33.987 --> 17:35.931 responsibilities today , but I can 17:35.931 --> 17:37.987 guarantee you when he , when he took 17:37.987 --> 17:40.153 over that job , none of this existed . 17:40.153 --> 17:42.320 So if you're wondering what one person 17:42.320 --> 17:44.265 can do and he probably had no idea 17:44.265 --> 17:46.487 where this would go and then you'd have 17:46.487 --> 17:48.431 a room of people like this sitting 17:48.431 --> 17:50.153 together who have followed his 17:50.153 --> 17:52.042 footsteps , right ? But if you're 17:52.042 --> 17:54.153 wondering what one person can do , um 17:54.153 --> 17:56.320 And what that legacy could look like . 17:56.320 --> 17:58.969 Uh going back to girl's responsibility 17:59.430 --> 18:01.597 uh in terms of taking what you learned 18:01.597 --> 18:03.770 here back and giving back to your 18:03.780 --> 18:05.558 organizations back in the Fleet 18:05.558 --> 18:07.669 Rainforest . Or if you're getting our 18:07.669 --> 18:09.724 out , like I saw , saw Cardenas over 18:09.724 --> 18:11.947 there , uh He knows why I'm not wearing 18:11.947 --> 18:14.058 these , uh , anything here because he 18:14.058 --> 18:16.002 uh put me through AM TP at least a 18:16.002 --> 18:18.169 portion of it . Um , but I know you're 18:18.169 --> 18:20.058 getting out but you have paid the 18:20.058 --> 18:22.113 service already . And so , uh you've 18:22.113 --> 18:24.224 either already done it or you need to 18:24.224 --> 18:26.447 do it . Just like for General Lothe did 18:26.447 --> 18:28.447 and uh someone's gonna receive that 18:28.447 --> 18:30.613 trophy here in a minute now in closing 18:30.613 --> 18:32.719 um , weapons training the day . Uh 18:32.729 --> 18:34.951 Thank you for what you do here for this 18:34.951 --> 18:37.285 and uh what you do for the Marine Corps . 18:37.285 --> 18:40.500 Um I did not understand for John and 18:40.510 --> 18:42.839 Nassar Capo , uh the value of the 18:42.849 --> 18:44.960 Marine Corps shooting team , but I've 18:44.960 --> 18:47.127 never shot , done it before when I was 18:47.127 --> 18:49.349 a platoon commander , company commander 18:49.349 --> 18:51.571 Tan or whatever . I , I knew there were 18:51.571 --> 18:53.682 matches going on and Marines went off 18:53.682 --> 18:55.460 to the matches . But uh we were 18:55.460 --> 18:55.459 involved in a work up or , or whatever 18:55.469 --> 18:57.691 it was and , and I probably should have 18:57.691 --> 18:59.802 paid more attention back in the day . 18:59.802 --> 19:01.691 Uh , but after spending two years 19:01.691 --> 19:03.747 almost in this job . I have no doubt 19:03.747 --> 19:05.802 that we absolutely positively need a 19:05.802 --> 19:08.080 Marine Force shooting team . All right . 19:08.080 --> 19:10.247 So all you all , all , what you did to 19:10.247 --> 19:12.302 set this up , all the region matches 19:12.302 --> 19:14.580 that you ran to get us here today . Uh , 19:14.580 --> 19:16.636 I very much appreciate it for both . 19:16.636 --> 19:18.858 You , you two and your rifle and pistol 19:18.858 --> 19:21.025 teams . I know a lot of work went into 19:21.025 --> 19:23.080 that and , um , I don't think people 19:23.080 --> 19:25.136 understand the grassroot impact that 19:25.136 --> 19:26.969 has on the pool . And I have , I 19:26.969 --> 19:26.790 certainly have a much better 19:26.839 --> 19:29.061 understanding of that now . But also if 19:29.061 --> 19:31.283 you have any of your MP MS uh team here 19:31.449 --> 19:33.380 with the engine room that drives 19:33.390 --> 19:35.920 innovation , uh , like protecting the 19:35.930 --> 19:38.041 things that we know are good and then 19:38.041 --> 19:40.319 innovating in the ways we know we must , 19:40.319 --> 19:42.800 uh , as well as , uh , the schoolhouse , 19:42.810 --> 19:44.599 formerly known as the Sky Su uh 19:44.609 --> 19:46.665 schoolhouse and transition to FS and 19:46.665 --> 19:48.831 precision marketing . Uh , what you do 19:48.831 --> 19:50.699 too is a tremendously important 19:50.709 --> 19:53.630 precision weapons uh attachment that 19:53.640 --> 19:55.640 you have , uh , everything that you 19:55.640 --> 19:58.540 guys do is important . And , um , and I , 19:58.550 --> 20:00.717 and I greatly appreciate it . And with 20:00.717 --> 20:03.319 that , um , I'll humbly conclude my 20:03.329 --> 20:05.218 remarks and again , thank you for 20:05.218 --> 20:07.273 having me here here .
