Sergeant Major Brown was born in New Martinsville, WV and holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Homeland Security and a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA).
SgtMaj Brown enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 6, 1987. After receiving a meritorious promotion out of boot camp, PFC Brown graduated from Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Parris Island, SC. Upon graduation PFC Brown attended Aviation Machinist Mate School in Millington, TN followed by FRAMP School for the F/A-18 Hornet in Jacksonville, FL.
In May 1988, LCpl Brown reported for duty at VMFA-312 (Checkerboards), Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort, SC where he served as a Plane Captain for the F/A-18.
In September 1988, LCpl Brown was transferred to VMFA-451 (Warlords), MCAS Beaufort, SC and participated in Mediterranean cruise aboard the USS Coral Sea (CV-43). During this tour of duty LCpl Brown was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Cpl.
In September 1989, Cpl Brown transferred to VMFA-122 (Crusaders), MCAS Beaufort, SC and participated in multiple unit deployments to the Western Pacific.
In July of 1993 Sgt Brown reported for duty at Parris Island, SC where he attended Drill Instructor School. While stationed at Parris Island, SgtMaj Brown worked as a drill instructor for 2D Battalion Gulf Company and Support Training Battalion.
In October 1995, SSgt Brown reported back to MCAS Beaufort, SC where he was assigned to VMFA (AW)-533 (Hawks). While assigned to the Hawks SgtMaj Brown made multiple unit deployments to Italy, Hungary and the Western Pacific. While assigned to this unit he held the billets of Quality Assurance Chief, Maintenance Control Chief, and Powerline Division Chief.
In August of 1999, SSgt Brown reported to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan where he was assigned to VMFA-212 (Lancers). While assigned to this unit he held the billets of Quality Assurance Chief, Powerline Division Chief, Maintenance Control Chief, Squadron GySgt, and acting Squadron SgtMaj. While assigned to this unit GySgt Brown made multiple deployments to Yuma, AZ., Australia, Thailand, Guam, Korea, Hawaii, Okinawa, Singapore, and Kuwait. During this tour of duty GySgt Brown was the recipient of the Gung Ho Award from the SNCO Academy Advanced Course.
In May of 2004 1stSgt Brown reported to Lima Co. 3d BN 24th Marines in Johnson City, TN where he held the billet of Inspector Instructor 1stSgt and Company 1stSgt until his promotion to SgtMaj. In May of 2007, SgtMaj Brown reported to 2D Combat Engineer Battalion (CEB), Second Marine Division (2MARDIV), Camp Lejeune, NC for duty as the BN SgtMaj. While serving with 2D Combat Engineer Battalion, SgtMaj Brown’s Marines and Sailors participated in multiple deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and support detachments with various Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU). In October 2009 2D Combat Engineer Battalion deployed with the entire BN as part of the Ground Combat Element (GCE), 2D Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan.
In August 2010, SgtMaj Brown reported to VMFA (AW)-242 (BATS), Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan for duty as the squadron SgtMaj. During his tour with the Bats the squadron made multiple unit deployments throughout the Pacific Theatre.
In May of 2011, SgtMaj Brown reported to the Commanding Officer of MCAS Iwakuni, Japan for duty as the base SgtMaj.
Sergeant Major Brown’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 Gold Star, Navy Marine Corps Achievement, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Volunteer Service Medal.
