SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Brig. Gen. Del Eulberg, director of Installations and Mission Support for Air Mobility Command, announced an enhancement to the headquarters A-7 directorate.
Effective March 15, the directorate now includes AMC Security Forces.
Integrating Security Forces with other aspects of mission support at the headquarters level is a key piece in implementing Gen. (John W.) Handys (AMC commander) vision to create even broader capability for resolving both expeditionary and garrison combat support issues, said General Eulberg.
The commands security forces are now integrated with the civil engineer, services, and contracting functional areas. While the core and functional mission areas remain intact, some compatible staff functions are integrated into similar A-7 divisions to gain efficiencies, clarity, and enhanced team effectiveness in the readiness, resources and plans and program areas.
Extending the theme of integration, General Eulberg said the expeditionary combat support division will serve as the mission support group staff element at the headquarters level for working cross-functional programs and issues.
We have taken deliberate steps to seed mission support and expeditionary combat support integration through both organizational changes and our headquarters staff concepts of operations, he said.
The realignments in organizational structure and changes in staff mindset will further empower the IMS directorates vision to provide AMC an enhanced degree of focus on installations, garrison mission support, and expeditionary combat support.
Integration must occur at the lowest possible level and in multiple locations to develop synergy in the transformed organization, said General Eulberg. Force protection will now receive greater attention in the three other divisions in a way not possible without integrating Security Forces into and throughout key parts of the Installations and Mission Support Directorate.
All four functional areas in the directorate will also learn from each other. The key is maintaining the essential core competencies of civil engineering, services, contracting, and security forces, but at the same time, leverage the common skill sets of all four functional areas. The objective of everything we do is world-class global mobility support, said the general, and this transformation moves us further toward that goal.
While the SF move to A7 will enhance the directorates mission effectiveness, the change has personal meaning for the general.
Im excited about Security Forces joining the A7 team for a couple reasons. As a past mission support group and wing commander, I know what these professionals bring to the fight. In addition, my father served as a policeman for 28 years, so I know firsthand how difficult this job can be and some of the sacrifices the families have to make supporting these great professionals, he said.
