8 Apr 2010 | Capt. Caroline Wellman

The 445th Airlift Wing began a six-month mobilization April 5 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

A total of 130 Airmen were placed on active duty status to support current military operations.

Most of the activated Airmen will remain at the 445th Airlift Wing. Members of the 445th Operations Group and Maintenance Group expect to fly multiple missions in support of the surge in Afghanistan, and five transportation Airmen will be stationed at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., according to Col. Stephen D. Goeman, 445th Airlift Wing commander.

Airmen from across the wing - including personnel, logistics, legal support, aircrew, maintenance, life support, family support, safety, transportation, public affairs and chaplain - are supporting the current mobilization.

The 445th Airlift Wing is home to 10 C-5A Galaxy aircraft, as well as approximately 2,100 reserve Airmen. It falls under Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Ga. If mobilized, the wing becomes part of Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

Organizations within the 445th Airlift Wing have mobilized multiple times since Sept. 11, 2001, in support of military operations.
