March family readiness program to receive DOD award

24 Oct 2005 | AFRC News Service

In the past when reservists deployed, they received information and training on how to prepare for their new location, but their families often had to fend for themselves until they returned.

That changed with the creation and development of family readiness programs. Family readiness people answer questions and provide information about military service and benefits.

Among the better programs in the country is March’s 452nd Mission Support Group Family Readiness Program, the best in the Air Force Reserve Command. Along with programs from the country’s six other reserve components, it will receive a 2004 Reserve Family Readiness Award during a ceremony Feb. 18 in the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes.

“The wonderful people on our family readiness staff are so deserving of this award,” said Col. Richard G. Stephens, 452nd MSG commander, who is scheduled to attend the Pentagon award ceremony. “Receiving this honor on their behalf is a joy and a career highlight. I’m proud to represent the entire team.”

The award recognizes the base’s family readiness program staff for its outreach to military spouses and family members. During 2004, members of the staff helped families of both active and reserve troops who departed the historic installation for destinations worldwide in support of the on-going efforts to battle terrorism.
