Marine Forces Reserve Nordic Frost 18

U.S. Marines with 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, conducted cold weather training exercise, Nordic Frost, on Camp Ethan Allen in Jericho, Vt., Jan. 13-27, 2018. Today in history: MAG-24 lands in Philippines January 11, 1945

On Jan. 11, 1945 the first elements of Marine Aircraft Group 24 landed on the south shore of the Lingayen Gulf on the western coast of the Luzon Islands in the Philippines. They provided close air support to nearly 175,000 Army forces that trekked across the 20-mile beach head. They made a major contribution to the large scale Army drive to retake the Philippines.
