Marines with Chemical Biological Incident Response Force are participating in Exercise Chicago Response in Chicago, Illinois, July 24-26, 2018. This was the first time the active duty response force trained with Chicago-area first responders and served to establish a working relationship between CBIRF and the cities of Champaign and Chicago.

U.S. Marines with Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) respond to a simulated nuclear detonation during Scarlet Response 2022 at Guardian Centers of Georgia, Georgia, May 19, 2022. CBIRF capabilities include explosive ordnance disposal, technical search and rescue, decontamination, medical, identification and detection, and casualty extraction in the event of nuclear detonation. Scarlet Response 2022 is designed to physically and mentally test CBIRF personnel and the unit’s joint partners, the 911th Technical Rescue Engineer Company, in a simulated joint disaster response. U.S. Marines from the Chemical/Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) conduct the Capital Shield Exercise at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, Sept. 24, 2021. The purpose of the exercise is to support the national capital region through the transportation of vehicles, supplies, and personnel using the Landing Craft Air Cushions (LCAC). This annual exercise was designed to sharpen the operational readiness and capabilities of working in a joint environment. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Lance Cpl. Andrew Herwig) The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps conducts this annual exercise to ensure cohesiveness and the efficiency of these modes of transportation, in the event that the national capital region cannont be accessed via road. CBIRF was activated in April of 1996 by Gen. Charles C. Krulak, 31st Commandant of the Marine Corps, to counter the effects of chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incidents.
