Marine Corps Forces South conducted many engagements in the Southern Command area of responsibility during 2023. Highlights included training and partnerships in South America, Central America and the Caribbean, where Marines worked with partner nations during multi-national exercises, jungle and cold weather training, subject matter expert exchanges and more. U.S. Marines with 4th Civil Affairs Group, Marine Forces Reserve, participate in exercise CENTAM Guardian Phase II and give light on the role of Civil Affairs during natural disasters at San Jose, Costa Rica, June 3-14, 2024. Civil affairs assessments consist of collecting data on areas effected by humanitarian aid or disaster relief in order to pass accurate information on to the proper organizations. Exercise CENTAM Guardian 24 Phase II, an annual, multinational exercise designed to build humanitarian assistance/disaster response functional capacity, 3-14 June, is taking place in various locations throughout Costa Rica.
