U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, production to celebrate National Flag Day, honoring our nation’s colors and commemorate the date in 1777 in which the first design of the national flag of the United States of America was approved.

As we celebrate our nation’s flag this weekend, we remember what this enduring symbol of our freedom stands for. Sergeant Franklin D. Taft, 39th Color Sergeant of the Marine Corps, gives us a look at what it means to him to be the official bearer of our nation’s flag.

Marines honor Flag Day with Morning Colors Ceremony aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., June 19. During the ceremony, Marines recited the Pledge of Allegiance and learned the history of five different variations the Flag has gone through in history. Also, Marines from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing reenacted the Flag raising of Iwo Jima. The Marines welcomed retired Sgt. Maj. Mike "Iron Mike" Mervosh.
