Marines with Fox Company, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, tested their ability to conduct operations in the deep snow and extreme cold of the harsh northern Michigan winter during exercise Winter Break 18, aboard Camp Grayling, Michigan, Feb. 6-14.

Northern Strike 17, a National Guard hosted exercise, brings together service members from across the U.S. Department of Defense as well as service members from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Latvia, Canada and Poland. Marine Forces Reserve participation in Northern Strike 17 focused on strengthening and refining mechanized, amphibious, land and air capabilities while operating in a joint and multinational capacity. Task Force 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment used Northern Strike 17 to gauge overall training and readiness levels as they prepare for Integrated Training Exercise 2018 and future mobilizations and deployments in 2019.

Northern Strike 17, a National Guard hosted exercise, brings together service members from across the U.S Department of Defense as well as service members from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Latvia, and Poland. Reserve Marines from 20 states, along with service members from three coalition nations, participated in a Exercise Northern Strike 16, a three-week exercise that helps reservists gain knowledge and understanding of their profession as Marines. Exercise Northern Strike 16 took place at Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center, Mich. in the first three weeks of August 2016. Northern Strike 16 is a National Guard Bureau-sponsored exercise uniting approximately 5,000 Army, Air Force, Marine, and Special Forces service members from 20 states and three coalition countries during the first three weeks of August 2016 at the Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center and the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, both located in northern Michigan. The exercise strives to provide accessible, readiness-building opportunities for military units from all service branches to achieve and sustain proficiency in conducting mission command, air, sea, and ground maneuver integration, and the synchronization of fires in a joint, multinational, decisive action environment. Marines with Charlie Company, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, participated in numerous simulated combat exercises at Exercise Northern Strike 16. In order to maintain proficiency in all aspects of combat, Reserve Recon Marines must practice exercises like combat parachute insertions. Exercise Northern Strike 16 is a National Guard Bureau-sponsored exercise uniting approximately 5,000 Army, Air Force, Marine, and Special Forces service members from 20 states and three coalition countries during the first three weeks of August 2016 at the Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center and the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, both located in northern Michigan.
