Eric-John Niss de Jesus, a former military police officer with Marine Corps Installations Pacific and a Mountain Lake, Minn. native, passed away while swimming at Odo Beach, Okinawa, June 5, 2021. Every year, a significant number of accidents occur, and many of them are tragically preventable with the right safety measures and awareness. A dual-military family, Marine Gunnery Sgt. Gizelle Katchka and Staff Sgt. Kyle Katchka and their two daughters have faced hardships typical military families don't: having both parents deploying at the same time and leaving their children behind. The Katchka's are now stationed aboard Quantico and not expecting to deploy simultaneously again. Gizelle is the logistics director for the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, and Kyle is the Funeral Director at Marine Barracks Washington, District of Columbia.
