Marines embarked on the USS Germantown October 27, 2015 at White Beach, Okinawa, Japan. The Marines and the Navy worked together on the Germantown to conduct carrier qualifications with an MV-22B Osprey and an amphibious assault with amphibious assault vehicles. Blue Chromite is an amphibious training exercise that draws primarily from III Marine Expeditionary Force’s training resources on Okinawa. Participating units maintain a forward-deployed posture while eliminating travel costs.

ARABIAN GULF (July 22, 2015) U.S. Marines from Kilo Company, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, fire at their targets during a short-range marksmanship qualification course aboard the dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47). The marksmanship course focused on improving the Marines’ communication and immediate action tactics, which prepares them for potential operations while deployed with the 15th MEU. U.S. Marine 1st. Lt. Hunter Harrison speaks about the sustainment training conducted by India Company, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Harrison is a platoon commander with India Co, BLT 3/1. The Marines of BLT 3/1 executed a series of attack and maneuver drills consisting of machine gun, grenade, rocket, squad and night attacks. Elements of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit are ashore in Djibouti for sustainment training to maintain and enhance the skills they developed during their pre-deployment training period. The 15th MEU is currently deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation. Marines grappled for two minutes prior to going through the course of fire to simulate firing under stress and fatigue, which can occur in combat. The marksmanship course refined Marines combat marksmanship skills and incorporated the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, which reinforces the warrior ethos instilled in them.
