A time lapse video shows Marines and Sailors with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and Combat Logistics Battalion 31 assembling a U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency emergency shelter after Super Typhoon Yutu devastated Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Nov. 7, 2018. Yutu is the second strongest storm to ever hit U.S. soil. The 31st MEU and CLB-31 arrived Oct. 29-31 to lead the DOD’s relief efforts here, a multi-service contingent of military units addressing Tinian’s urgent needs. Partnering with FEMA, CNMI and Tinian officials, the 31st MEU is the command element for Task Force-West here. FEMA and Tinian officials identified families most in need of emergency shelters during the days after Yutu passed on Oct. 25 – Now, the Marines and Sailors of the 31st MEU and CLB-31 are helping assemble tents to house displaced Tinians as more aid continues to arrive. BALTIC SEA (June 4-12, 2018) – U.S. Marines and Sailors assigned to Fox Company, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and the Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51), participated in the multilateral exercise Baltic Operations (BALTOPS) 2018 in the Baltic Sea region, June 4-12. BALTOPS is the premier annual maritime-focused exercise in the Baltic region and one of the largest exercises in Northern Europe enhancing flexibility and interoperability among allied and partner nations. The dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51) conducted flight operations aboard the ship in support of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and its deployed operations off the coast of North Carolina in the Atlantic Ocean, Feb. 14, 2018. Amphibious warships are designed to support the Marine Corps in Operational Maneuver from the Sea and Ship to Objective. They must be capable of sailing in harm's way and enable rapid combat power buildup in the face of opposition.
