MACS-2 provides ground based, air task-oriented radar picture and command and control function in support of air to air, surface to air, and surface to surface fires. Formidable Shield is a biennial, integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) exercise involving a series of live-fire events against subsonic, supersonic, and ballistic targets, incorporating multiple Allied ships, aircraft, and ground forces working across battle spaces to deliver effects. Marine Air Control Squadron (MACS) 2 “adopted” W.J. Gurganus Elementary School through the Adopt-A-School program at W. J. Gurganus Elementary School, Havelock, N.C., Oct. 16. 2017. The Adopt-A-School program allows Marines from MACS-2 to volunteer as tutors and to spent time with the children.

There are only two AN/TPS-80 [G/ATOR] radar systems actively used within the United States Marine Corps today. The new system produces 3D radar imagery and has improved tracking and detection capabilities. The G/ATOR can be deployed and operational within 30 minutes of assembly, besting the previous system by over an hour.
