This 1 minute version of this episode of the Marine Time Machine explains the history of the inspiration of the line of the Marines hymn "to the shores of Tripoli," during the Battle of Derna. Marine Time Machine is a short video series that highlights different periods of Marine Corps history.

Members of Marine Corps Band New Orleans performed during halftime at the Kansas City Chiefs versus Seattle Seahawks game Nov. 16, 2014. The band performed the song “Kansas City” as well as the Marines’ Hymn. The game, which honored all service men and women, is part of the National Football League’s annual Salute to Service campaign in which, throughout November, teams designate one home game to honor the military.

Twenty-two nations, 49 ships and six submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 26 to August 1, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to the safety sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. Long before the legendary Sammy Nestico was arranging music for acclaimed artists such as Count Basie and Quincy Jones, he served as the Chief Arranger for the United States Marine Band. Although his career with "The President's Own" was only five years, the legacy of his talent continues to grow. Conducted by Marine Band Director Colonel Michael J. Colburn, the Marine Band, Marine Chamber Orchestra, and Marine Dance Band will perform the Living History concert titled "Simply Sammy" at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Va. The program will feature music that Sammy arranged or composed while he was a Marine Band member. The concert is free and no tickets are required.
