Marines with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 462 and Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 conduct joint training, June 11, 2019. HMH-462 flew from Marine Corps Air Station Futenma to MCAS Iwakuni to work together with VMGR-152. Approximately 380 U.S. Air Force personnel from more than 60 career fields participated in Exercise Balikatan to exchange operational and organizational knowledge with the Philippine Air Force at Clark Air Base, Philippines, April 1-12, 2019. Exercise Balikatan, in its 35th iteration, is an annual U.S.-Philippine military training focused on a variety of missions, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, counter-terrorism, and other combined military operations. Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 sends its first KC-130J Super Hercules to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni July 15 from MCAS Futenma. The transfer from Okinawa is part of the agreement between the Government of Japan and the U.S. Marine Corps to reduce impact to communities around MCAS Futenma, realign the presence and distribute the activities of U.S. Forces in Japan. Aviation Ordnance Marines with Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 release simulated surface-to-air missiles, called “Smokey SAMs,” to help train C-130 pilots on ground-to-air threat reactions. Cpl. Natalie Rostran takes us to the training island to see these “SAMs” in action.

U.S. Marine KC-130J Hercules aircraft supported a bilateral aerial delivery operation Feb. 20 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Kingdom of Thailand during exercise Cobra Gold 2013. Exercises like CG 13 allow the U.S. to collaborate with partner countries to achieve mutual security goals, address shared concerns, and continue to develop and enhance relationships.
