U.S. Marine Band - Change of Command

On Dec. 20, 2023, Lt. Col. Ryan J. Nowlin was officially designated director of the Marine Band at a change of command ceremony held at The Midwest Music Clinic in Chicago. The ceremony, overseen by Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Christopher J. Mahoney, took place midway through a Marine Band concert in which Col. Jason K. Fettig conducted the first half and Lt. Col. Nowlin conducted the second. As a symbol of the transfer of leadership, the John Philip Sousa baton was passed from outgoing to incoming director.

U.S. service members and their families participate in the Camp Foster Commissary Shopping Spree on Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 13, 2023. Camp Foster Commissary partnered with Okinawa Military Auto Source to selected 4 individuals to participate in a shopping spree of which the first place winner had 2 minutes to spend $300 and the second place winner had 1 minute and 30 second to spend $200 at the Commissary. Department of Defense Contributes to Local Airport Runway Rehab Project

Over the past 52 years the Albert J. Ellis airport has grown and its facilities have been maintained, refreshed and upgraded to meet the current and future needs of the region. The Department of Defense recently contributed $2M to a $11M runway rehabilitation project at the airport as part of the Defense Community Infrastructure Pilot (DCIP) Program which is designed to address deficiencies in community infrastructure, supportive of a military installation, in order to enhance military value, installation resilience, and military family quality of life in Richlands, North Carolina, August 23, 2023.
