U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Sophie Perry, a postal clerk with Marine Rotational Force - Darwin participates in a quarantine working party at the Royal Australian Air Force Base Darwin in NT, Australia, June 19, 2020. Perry, a Dayton, Ohio native, performs a variety of duties including the oversight of distribution of mail, financial services, procurement of supplies, and dispatching. The Marines supply the quarantined MRF-D personnel with essentials. Marines wear personal protective equipment and practice a decontamination process upon exiting quarantined areas. “Under the circumstances of COVID-19, it has been a challenge for us to do our job as postal Marines because of the lack of flights and their schedules constantly changing. Right now, our mission is to work under the situation at hand and find ways to get mail here and distribute it to the Marines and sailors. U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Mikayla Stewart, an ammunition technician, with Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, is one of the many Marines participating in MRF-D 2020 at the Royal Australian Air Force Base Darwin in NT, Australia. A Rochester, N.Y., native, Stewart performs a variety of duties including the management and accountability of all ammunition throughout the annual rotation. “One of the main reasons I chose to enlist was because I wanted to challenge myself and commit to a long journey of personal growth. I am fortunate for the opportunity to be in Australia because we are able to explore the country and experience new things. A lot of us ammunition technicians have a tight-knit bond. We have a critical job because of all of the training that the Marine Corps does, especially here. AUSTRALIAN ARMY BASE ROBERTSON BARRACKS, Darwin – Lt. Col. Brian Middleton, commanding officer of Marine Rotational Force Darwin, presented Australian Army Maj. Joel Domigan with the Air Medal with combat valor on May 26, 2017. Domigan was recognized for his heroic actions as an AH- 1 Cobra pilot with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169, 3rd Marine Air Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, while in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Australian soldiers with 5th Battalion The Royal Australian Regiment, Australian Army, Australian Defence Force, work with U.S. Marines with 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, to complete an air assault course July 2 during Exercise Koolendong at Bradshaw Field Training Area, Northern Territory, Australia. The soldiers were dropped off by a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463 in waves to maneuver and seize a mock enemy objective by aid of air and ground elements.
