Kinser Elementary School gives 1,000 Cranes of Hope to Antilles Elementary School

Mrs. Shimojo and Chief Warrant Officer John Hyatt led the Kinser Elementary School students in making 'senbazuru' for the elementary students of Antilles Elementary School affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. The students asked the local and military communities to fold hundreds of paper cranes and place them in designated drop boxes around Okinawa, Japan. Senbazuru is a group of 1,000 paper origami paper cranes made of 25 long stands of 40 cranes. The cranes symbolize hope and healing during challenging times. The local and military communities, and students from Germany, donated so many cranes that the Kinser Elementary Students were able to make three senbazuru. (Video by Lance Cpl. Tayler P. Schwamb)

Combat Life Saver Course (CLS)

Marines with Provost Marshal Office's Special Reaction Team, the Marine Corps version of SWAT, undergoes the 'kill house' Oct. 5 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. The CLS course educates and trains Marines in basic casualty and combat care, preparing them to provide aide to injured service members in combat situations. Marines learn to provide similar life-sustainment care that a corpsman would administer until the causality can be treated by a medical professional. The final test is a high intensity course that simulates the loud, hectic environment of a real life combat situation known as ‘kill house.’ SRT scrambles to save their battle buddies, effectively treat wounds and report their position. Aquatic Maximum Power Intensity Training (Amp-It)

What is AMP-IT? AMP-IT (Aquatic Maximum Power Intensity Training) is the water version of the popular Marine Corps HITT (High Intensity Tactical Training) program. Don't think it's just another water aerobics class. AMP-IT provides a strenuous workout. In fact, it can oftentimes be more strenuous than gym workouts. This workout encompasses a variety of high intensity activities designed to: - Increase strength, cardiovascular endurance and lung capacity, helping to improve PFT scores. - Reduce the risk of injury, facilitate recovery and decrease recovery time. - Be as challenging as on-land PT. Because it's non-weight bearing, AMP-IT, unlike land based workouts reduces stress on joints and bones making it accessible to injured Marines, Marines on light or limited duty can continue to train with their unit.
